How so? Do people not die, get divorced, drift apart, and get old in Bunnies Land?

there's plenty of activity in bunnies land..

they get married, so surely there'd be divorce..

It started out as the Ted and Robin show but as HIMYM got more seasons than they ever expected we saw all the reasons why they're awful for each other. Then Tracy comes along and her chemistry with Ted blows away anything he ever had with Robin. I read an article about how the creators pushed themselves into a corner and all the reasons why you shouldn't know how a show ends when you're creating it. You don't allow for the natural development of characters.

Bottom line, I think the conclusion they had in 2005 seemed right at the time but by 2014 the show and all of the characters were heading in a different direction and they should have adapted to that.

In my mind the finale really ends at precisely the 40:00 mark at the end of the perfectly written and acted scene at the station. The last 3 and a half minutes are a horrible April Fools joke.

What are the reasons they were wrong for each other?

Well the minor issue of they wanted completely different things out of life. They had completely different values. Next to his chemistry with the mother their chemistry paled into insignificance. When she had a direct choice between him and Barney she picked Barney. He and the mother were 2 halves of a whole. To bring out the cliche, they completed each other. Ted and Robin didn't make each other better. They stopped each other from growing.

For about the first 2-3 seasons I was on board with the Ted and Robin show. But as time went on and the more we got to know them the less I wanted them together. They grew apart. And by the time I met the mother I thought that was so much better for him than what he had with Robin.

But to end my ranting on the subject the following link does a much better job of saying what I'm thinking:

I tend to agree that the umbrella scene was perfect. I could have happily seen it end there, but they'd written themselves into a hole by already deciding on an ending.

I don't think Robin and Ted were terrible for one another. The thing he most wanted (a family) he already has now, and they've clearly always had chemistry.

To be honest, if the show had managed to end on the farewell at Barney & Robin's wedding + the umbrella scene, it would have been perfect.
