Hahahaha! Yeah right! The inner west is f**kED. The whole of Sydney is. I could pay a lot less, yeah, but I would be living in a rat infested shack.

My brother used to live in Newtown in the early 00's

A one bedroom unit (meaning a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, no living room) would set him back around $250 a week.

when I moved back to Sydney in 2003, my sister and I, were paying $185 for a 2br flat in Croydon, with city views. The same flat now, is $410. I'm finding it really difficult to save a cent, paying the $420pw that I am now.

Just had a dream that I was carving the meat off a huge leg of beef covered in BBQ sauce. Now I'm f**king starving.

TBH Sydney is actually quite affordable, rent wise at least. In the inner Canberra Suburbs I was paying $450 for a 1 bed apartment, ground floor, tiny. I'm on $550 for a 3 bed ex guvvy house that backs onto the bush 20 mins from the "city" at the moment.....

And it's about the same in Melbourne.

Cost of living is something like 14% lower in Melbourne. Melbourne is high, but not in the same league as Sydney.

Take it from someone who has spent way too many hours browsing how much rooms to rent are going for in both cities. One of the major reasons I'm picking Melbourne is they have many more homes in the inner city, and the greater supply means more competitive rent. I'm finding heaps of quality close to the city for between $150 and $180 a week. The equivalent in Sydney is well over $200 because they only have half an inner city thanks to the geniused position of the CBD.

I realise you have an almost rabid hatred of Sydney....but seriously? geniused position of the CBD? It's a harbour city. Do you suggest the CBD should have evolved in Blacktown?
