Is it wrong that I don't miss home?

I didn't hate Sydney per say, but I miss nothing about it, don't even miss family and/or friends. If anything, I miss my dog, that's about it. It's a beautiful place, don't get me wrong - but out here is just as beautiful, and while different, feels like home to me.

Which is why I'm extending my program out here and will be hopefully finishing my entire degree over here, then doing a working visa. Giving me the ability to live here for 3 years, and then hopefully, find long-term work over here.

That buzzfeed list is stupid anyway. You could replace those images with images of most other capital cities in Australia and hundreds of cities around the world and have exactly the same list. Might have to change the names of the sports and some landmarks but that's about it. Nothing there is unique

It's because you're a westie, and almost anything is better than out there...

A little studying up on employment prospects tells me that working hard in a trade is financially more secure than going to uni for years, copping a huge hecs debt (which is much worse under this government because the merkins want to increase the cost of degrees as well as adding interest to hecs debt). All that and the average graduate has less job security (in the field relevant to their degree) than most tradies do.

I don't expect it to be easy. As for the pay, I'm well aware of apprentices getting ordinary wages but it's still more than you get while you're at uni, as well as the big plus of not getting hecs debt. I've got very cheap rent sorted as well as some support from my parents. Living on apprentice money won't be a problem.

Love how the RMS makes sure they look busy AFTER accidents.

What's the word limit? Probably about 12 hours more than truly necessary.

Tradies can make a very good living BM, but they don't have anywhere near as much earning potential as a lawyer does. But money is only a small part of your life and really, if you are good at what you do you will get paid well no matter what industry. Just try and get a career in whatever it is you want to do.

Also, you don't want to be a tradie when you're in your 50s or even late 40s. You need to work like an absolute mofo when you're young or you'll end up laying pipe or bricks with busted knees and backs. Even if you cash up in your younger days a lot of tradesmen end up physically compromised quite early so you don't want a long working life.

yep.. and another piece of advice i was given - if you're in the corporate world, don't dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want to have...

of course, my boss then yelled at me to take off the forumla 1 driver's outfit...

key is to get in early, learn your trade and go out on your own, build the business and get people working for you..

you can run the business and have your employees do the hard work..

i'm actually annoyed i didn't get into a trade, i reckon i would have been able to make a good business out of it... (not wanting to bignote myself or anything..) but i'm business savvy and also have great customer service skills..

surprising how few tradies have these two skills...

and those that do are the ones who end up getting the referrals...

FFS BF. That is a real human there in that pic. Do you have any awareness or empathy at all?

I watched Gone Girl the other day and BF reminds me of someone in it.
