If the Panthers don't win tonight next weekend is going to be unbearable.

Penny's are nervous. Dogs know what to do in this end of the year, whereas I'm not sure Penrith do.

It's the most conservative electorate in the country. I don't think we're going to find anyone better than a crazy xenophobic homophobic socialist whose quite progressive on indigenous issues.

I agree, I just can't work out what is wrong with the electorate...

They're f**king politicians!

This is what I don't get. They're all self serving scum! None are better than others. Sure, maybe some seem better because they subscribe to your world view, or that of whomever votes for them, but they are almost to a man the exact same type of person. The outrage over the current government is maddening given they are the exact same as every other government in my lifetime.

Howard was bad, but he was not as bad as Abbott. Gillard and Rudd were semi-competent, but made some stupid policy decisions and couldn't manage the budget properly.

Keating was good. Fraser too.

The laws re the network monitoring stuff is truly police state stuff. Its incomprehensible how to me that there are no marches. I mean, we're talking Communist Russia style monitoring.

Sorry, but I refuse to accept that Gillard or Rudd were competent, let alone semi-compitent. Howard overstayed his time, but was a good PM. Abbott at the moment is following the US Republicans far too much for my liking, to the point that JM sounds like he is on the money (bar the guns stuff).

Rudd / Gillard were semi-competent. You might not like it but they were. Their issue is the NSW right got their teeth in and f**ked the whole deal.

Howard was the Australian equivalent to Margaret Thatcher. I won't say he was a tyrant, and there were some things he did that were good, but he actually set Australia up for the economic issues its having now.

Argree re Abbott. And thats what is scary.

I think history will be kinder to Gillard than Rudd. Gillard did a reasonable job in a difficult time, given the minority govt, in the face of some f**king ridiculous attacks from outside. But Rudd rode in on a wave of popularity and proceeded to put everyone off side. He was far too concerned with being populous and far too selfish to be a leader. His stumble when there was a bit of a challenge over the ETS basically doomed Labor from there on in, gave Abbot the start he needed and set us back environmentally long term.

That I cannot even remotely agree with.

How dare you say that about the number 1 ticket holder + patron of your club!

Agree.

As RB said, Gillard > Rudd, but both kept the joint running - just not well.

John Winston Howard is a saint, a scholar and Australia was lucky to have him as our Prime Minister.

What you're really saying is that Abbott, in being a politician and buying the votes of his own parties faithful, has done things you disagree with more than Howard. Because that is all politicians do. Some are just smart enough (unlike Abbott) to cater to a wider voting audience. Abbott isn't any worse than anyone else, Abbott is just an arrogant idiot who believes that appealing to his hardest core supporters is his job as PM. If his hardcore supporters suddenly up and supported gay marriage, the bill would go through next week.

FWIW I wasn't old enough for Keating to affect me, but reading back about it, he was awful as well. Rudd and Gillard were competent in the same way Peter Doust is. I would venture that they just appealed more to your own beliefs.

Maybe you're right - you probably are. I guess I hold on to some hope that there is, in politics, still a desire to do the right thing for the country and its people, rather than their political career.
