The New Deal is precisely what FDR did wrong. It turned the 1929 recession (the result of previous stupidity, namely massive credit expansion during the 1920s) into the Great Depression, which lasted a decade. You cannot cheat economic reality with government intervention. You can only hide it, and thus sow the seeds for future disaster.

The New Deal was terrible, it's just a coincidence that the worst of the Depression occurred just before FDR was elected.

He should have waited for a quarter of the population to starve to death, allowing the market to correct itself.

Also, FDR only continued the response that his predecessor Herbert Hoover began. If you give credit to FDR, you have to give credit to Hoover. This is of course unthinkable to partisans, so they have to pretend there was some significant difference between them. Luckily, I'm not a partisan and perfectly happy to throw both Republican Hoover and Democrat Roosevelt under the bus. Both tried massive government intervention to solve the problems presented by the 1929 recession, and both failed, only succeeding in turning what should have been a short, sharp adjustment into a decade-long period of misery.

Reagan was an intellectual lightweight and his anti-government rhetoric set the foundation for America's current shithouse economy. Trickle down economic theory is a joke. Since Reagan, America's GDP growth has not been matched at all by wages growth. That is what trickle down economics gives you.

This is Reagan's baby:

Combine that with the structural deficit he caused and you have an economic vandal. The only reason he has a good reputation is right wing idiots think he defeated the Soviet Union.

The story is similar with the 2008 GFC. Both Bush and Obama responded in the same way, channeling Hoover and FDR by throwing massive government spending at the problem. The US still hasn't recovered, and is heading for an even bigger crash unless they get distracted by a major conflict again. Obama is certainly doing his best to make such an outcome a distinct responsibility. Dubya would be proud of his war-mongering.

3 years of a 50% cut to the US defence budget would fix a huge amount of their economy.

But they've created such a paranoid country that such a decision will never happen.

We saw with Obamacare just how much power the president has.

None.

Lobby groups run the US

On a more important note, plenty of butt hurt Souths fans on FB whinging that Isaac Luke won't get a premiership ring if they win on Sunday. The fact that it is only given to people who play isn't an excuse apparently.

I'm an expert on American politics too. I say Grover Cleveland is the reason America is what is today. Who wants to listen to someone named after a muppet?

He will get one.

The NRL purchase 17 for the day but the club itself has an option to purchase more direct from the jeweller. You can bet that Souths will pick one up for Isaac Luke. Same as the Dogs will get one for Ennis should he not play.
