I suggest you wait a few months and then decide. When I bought my HP notebook (now the predecessor to my Asus ultrabook) I had the option of getting the sparkling brand new Windows Vista OS or just settling for XP. I opted for Vista and regretted my decision for the subsequent 4 years.

Always go with the proven OS.

Hmmm in that case maybe wait a month? In the meanwhile read up on user reviews of Windows 8 and if at all possible go to a computer shop where they'll let you do a test drive of Windows 8 (I have Computer Alliance down the road for this very same purpose).

Are you in Brisbane SK? That's the shop I usually go to for all my computer bits and pieces, following the recommendation of a couple of IT mates, unless there's another one with the same name.

Sure am Jason. I go to the one down on Logan Road, the guys there know their s*** and can answer my IT questions without having to go and ask their manager (ala Harvey Norman).

I also have a gmail account. Your friend will have to do a bit more work than simply checking for .au on the end of the address.

@SK: Yep, that's the store I go to. Our current PC was purchased from Harvey Norman (because I ahd a mate who worked there who knocked a few $ off), but any future such purchases will be from Computer Alliance. I basically plan on building a new machine (salvaging the SSD, HDDs, graphics card, and case from the current machine) when I can afford to (i.e. when my car stops burning such large holes in my wallet).
