Ratings don't measure how many people are actually watching. Just how many have their TVs turned on. Cricket is the universal background noise of summer.

The research wasn't based on ratings. The only sport you could genuinely argue is more popular is AFL, but you could hardly call that a truly national sport

My guess it was a survey, I'm not sure how they could have guessed how many Males/Females 14+ were into which sports based purely on ratings

I love football and have 3 different Socceroos jerseys, but there is a huge amount of irrational hatred of that sport in Australia.

I love watching cycling too, there is nothing more torturous on the human body and engrossing to watch than a gruelling climb of the Tourmalet or Col de Peyresourde

Although I will admit to only really watching the Grand Tours, which is all you can reliably find coverage for. I also admit to watching anything competitive.
