Oh, I don't dislike cricket at all. I play in a weekend comp here (all three teams), participate in inter-provincial tournaments when they come up, and watch it (one dayers only) when I'm home.

But it's still boring as bat-shit to discuss on a forum.

I've never understood where cricket gets off being labelled as the most popular sport in Australia. It certainly isn't evidenced by ratings or attendances or playing numbers.

It's the only major sport that is followed broadly in every city and state.

AFL and NRL cannot give sponsors the nationwide coverage that Cricket does.

People aren't nailed to their couches. If it genuinely wasn't the most popular sport in Australia as the research you asked for suggests, then people wouldn't watch it

Ratings don't measure how many people are actually watching. Just how many have their TVs turned on. Cricket is the universal background noise of summer.
