You need to be prepared to start at the bottom. You have no freakin idea how many youngsters I see come into my industry with a chip on their shoulder, expecting to run the world within the first 12 months.

Although I had a degree behind me, I still started on a traineeship and my first job was cleaning the warehouse at my old work. If you have the right ethic you will progress quickly enough. Within 18 months I had more than doubled my starting pay and my boss was talking about progression strategies. Turn up when you say you will, be prepared to do the sh*t work when you have to and dress for the role you want, not the role that you may have and you will go a long way.

Oh WERD!

Being a manager in fashion retail, we tend to hire younger kids cos obviously they're cheaper to pay. And nothing drives me more insane is when you ask NICELY for them to pick up a mop or duster and they look at you like you just killed their mother in front of them.
