Love for Kaitaia in Gold Coast

These proud New Zealand Warriors supporters from Kaitaia were spotted promoting #ILoveKaitaia at the team's game against the Titans in the Gold Coast on Sunday.
The hashtag designed to highlight the positives of Kaitaia has made its way across the Ditch, making an appearance at the recent New Zealand Warriors game in the Gold Coast.

Naomi Austen-Reid created a social media campaign #ILoveKaitaia encouraging people to share why they love Kaitaia using the hashtag.

It came after the born-and-bred Kaitaia woman was sick of the bad name the Far North town was getting after it was labelled the murder capital of New Zealand following at least four homicide investigations in the Far North this year, three of them in Kaitaia.

The hashtag has become popular on social media and at the New Zealand Warriors vs Gold Coast Titans game in the Gold Coast on Sunday a group of proud supporters from Kaitaia were snapped with a banner letting everyone know where they were from. In big bold print was a logo which read "Straight Outta Kaitaia" and below it was #ILoveKaitaia.

The image, which was posted on the Maori in Perth Facebook group, had 324 likes and 99 shares as of yesterday.

No mate.. was family though, Corey Silich and his cousin did it. Corey is married to our niece.

Sucky thing was the banner was confiscated later by security.. too big they reckoned.

They did manage to get it into the ground. What was annoying for them was the fact that some of the Titans supporters banners were a lot bigger and were allowed to stay.

There'd have to have been a few Warriors, past and present, who've come from Northland.
