Nathan Adrian's split was even quicker. McEvoy might win but it isn't a sure thing.
Yeh but Cams time is significant considering he was swimming behind others, which is hard, compared to Adrian who was clearly ahead at that point.

Like I said quietly confident.
I think we'll do alright in the pool.

So the Russian that won Seebohms heat has been suspended twice and wasn't supposed to be in Rio but won an appeal.
Yep nothing suss there!

Its good for less drag in the water but has anyone noticed the majority of Female swimmers are flat-chested?

Their swimsuits are designed to flatten them out, also there is no fat on those athletes so they tend to look a tad smaller than most.

The yanks are great. That reaction to bronze was fantastic. He obviously surprised himself. Not every sportsperson has to have a subdued personality.
I tend to get annoyed by how professional and media savvy our swimmers tend to be - it sounds like PR reps get in their ears. Good to hear Mack speaking his mind. More of it.

The only certainty left is Cate in the 100m...

The men's 100 and both the 50m are lotteries but hopefully they can win one of them...

The other 2 hopefully from the following;

Horton in the 1500m ...

Womens Medley relay...

Larkin in the 100 or 200 ( unlikely to win both)

Cate is no certainty in either the 50 or 100 with little sister a good chance. Sarah Sjostrom's world record in the 100 fly could see her be a real chance of winning the both 50 and 100 free too. Watch out for the Dutch girl Ranomi Kromowidjojo in both events as well.

Also Federica Pellegrini - past her peak in the pool but still awfully fine out of it. Although she will probably feature in the medals in 200free.

Florent Manadou a good chance of going back to back for 50 free. Can't see McEvoy winning this. 100 is his best chance.

Women's medley relay is anyone's but expect China and Sweden to be right up there along with US.

Katinka Hosszu could well get swimmer of the meet if she wins the 200im and 200 back which I expect her to. She's also in the 100 back final and a real chance. Simply in career best form. She is also a chance in the 200 fly although Australian Maddie Groves should probably win that.

Disagree on your last point. Ledetky is getting the swimmer of the meet if she does the treble

I'm pretty confident about Cate's chances in the 100 and so are Sportsbet who are only offering $1.35..

If you like Sarah Sjostrom then fill your boots at $6.00..

Also I don't like Groves at all in the 200m...

You are probably right. But if Hosszu wins all her individual events, which she is an outside chance of doing, she deserves it. Ledecky swimming for the US and medaling in the relays is the reason she is likely to win it. Her performance in the 400im was equal to Ledecky's in the 400 free in my opinion.

the freestyle champs will and should always be ranked about the other strokers. That said, I don't know what I am talking about.

Hmmm well the greatest swimmer and Olympian of all time was only a part time freestyle swimmer.

I swam at a reasonably high level when I was younger.

The treble doesn't even include the relay. Was talking about the 200m as the 3rd leg.

Yep I knew what you meant mate. It would be a great achievement when in all likelihood she does win all 3. I just think Hosszu winning the medley double, 200 back, 200 fly and medaling in the 100 back would be a better individual performance than Ledecky. Just my opinion. I think she is real chance of doing that.

She will win the medleys but the others she won't win. Take Us have some stars and even Australia have Seebolm in her pet event. Ledekynis winning 3 golds bare minimum most likely 4. Plus she already has a silver too. 5 medals.

True Phelps is the GOAT but he wasn't talked about that way until he had won a heck of a lot more gold than the great freestylers. Until last Olympics I had heard Thorpe still talked about as possible GOAT swimmer.
The other strokes are like 110 metres hurdles compared to 100m sprint. If the hurdler was a faster sprinter he wouldn't hurdle he would 100.
If Phelps was a better freestyler he would have focussed entirely on 50m, 100m, 200, 400 free.
I say all this admitting that I don't know much about swimming and could drown in a bath tub. Anyone who is more of an authority on this stuff feel free to smash me down.

200, 400, 800m. The last one she is the $1.02 favourite so really she only has 1 to win.

I guess the .02 is because she could fall in like Thorpe or otherwise break. Though it would be odd to break in an 800m. Sounds like she could let the others start, have a cigarette, take some selfies and still win.
