Sydney Cup - Games at SCG

OK idea, but can the SCG idea. Firstly, it's not central - why one earth move Parra v Dogs there when bot home games are closer. Secondly, if you are going to go all that way why not use the SFS.

I'd make it a State Cup, and include Newcastle btw. But it's a good call either way.

Superb idea.

Would cause some jealousy amongst non-Sydney clubs because of the financial benefit...however i'm sure this can be worked around.

Great way of reigniting Sydney interest in the game and combat the AFL's incoming thrust.

I have worked out a 2010 draw that gives every team 4 home games. I will try post it somehow.
I can atleast keep track of it for my own amusement

I would also like to add bonus points to the concept.

3 points a win
1 point for keeping opposition below 10
1 point for scoring 7 tries or more.

This would give greater potential for some teams that are struggling on the NRL ladder to be in reach to win this competition

Also a chance to trial different points systems in parallel to the real comp.

I wonder if the concept would be able to go ahead without NRL backing.
Say one the CEO's found a Sponsor for the idea and then approached the other Sydney Clubs.
In return that Sponsor would get advertising on the big screen etc at the games that are included (36 games)
If this would happen would it really need the NRL tick of approval?
also if it is organised by the CEO's and not the NRL then other clubs have nothing they can complain about

I think you should just keep it simple for when you're trying to get the idea out there. Talking about bonus points etc is complicated and controversial and might turn people off the idea.

The fundamental idea is good, details can follow later.

I just thought of another good thing about this idea. It takes away the SCG from the Swans a few times a year.

The RU comp used to run a cup competition within the league. Can't remeber much of it, but it ran along these lines.

Premier starts with a trophy.
Premier puts trophy on the line at home matches only, if beaten trophy changes hands.

Meaning any club at any time can hold it, so long as they defeat the incumbent team away.

Why not just have a FA cup style comp pre-season then. Every senior club in Sydney can take part.
So Sydney teams have to play more games than the rest? The point of that is what exactly?

What RU comp? And what is the point of that?

The original idea - without the SCG bit, is the best. If there is a pre-season, it has to include ALL teams and not be a knockout but the same format as the old Toohey's challenge - 2 or 3 rounds and a final.

Its was in response to the suggestion this should be a preseason comp. I like the original idea. it has merit. makes every Sydney game important.

And by playing a Sydney only pre-season comp, the participants play more games than the non participants.
