What the hell are they doing on my boat! Having a late night p*ss up or something

They were 3.5nm in front about 1 and 1/2 hours ago. Only 1.5nm now.

Sif the Hobart is boring ... it's one of THE sporting events of the year damnit!

It's out to 13nm at the moment, from memory Wild Oats has a slightly lighter crew weight and were slightly further out to sea when the pressure hit earlier this morning. Unless they get a nice shift to the south as they turn right the gap should narrow again prior to the finish.

Wild Oats still will win though, I have them down for the double. (LH/IRC)

Well theres someone who knows about boats :D

Been keeping an eye on it on the web the last few hours and the lead has gone from 20nm to 17.9nm. That keeps coming in and it'll be a close finish...

Hey how much is 1nm?

1nm is 1.85200km.

It looks like Alfa and the rest of the pack have really been following the pressure across the Straight for the last few hours, hence the closure to Wild Oats who has been stuck at about 16 - 17kt where the others have been nudging 22kts at times. That's ocean racing for you; it's not always the best to be out in front. There is also a possibility that Wild Oats has suffered some damage like a blown out masthead, which would explain the radical closure as well.

Anyways, it should be a close run up the Derwent early in the morning.

Just checking in after waking up and about to head to work... They must have got going again as they are finished and Alpha still has 11nm to go.

And I wasn't far out with explaining to my wife how far behind they were. I used the Melbourne Cup distance as an example. When the gap was 16nm I said they are 8 melbourne cups behind  close...
