A basically educated ex footballer on a board of mangement as the news rep - obviously the board has little power in the running of the game in that case with the game solely managed from new york.

What a load of c..p Richard Branson,Gerry Harvey as examples had a basic education, but knew their ability ie promotion /selling.Tallis knows the needs of players ,what the fan feels and is more in tune with the grassroots of rugby league than the other members of the board. He is not there to give financial advice but offer his honest opion on matters of eg a 16th team/.player burnout/ junior development/expansion.Its a little thing called commonsense coupled with experience in the sport on which the board he operates from.
A good move IMO.The TV deals in oz,the radio deals in oz,the sponsorship deals in oz,the decision on number of teams in Oz,are decided by the NRL board not by New York.
The main concern of New York/News Ltd is that they get the usual financial reports as to the game making money, and repaying the debt of the SL years, which it is clearly doing.

For some reason I keep picturing that exchange between Tallis, Peachey, and Jason Robinson....the latter two trying to explain to him that you decide which way your team runs as well as recieving the ball at the start of golden point extra time. #-o
GT "We will receive the ball"
JR "Yeah you do, which way you wanna run?"
GT "No, we will receive the ball"

Does the board do all that much?

I was under the impression that the admin staff do most of it (i.e. Gallop and Co)

Tallis will just be puppet for News Ltd. "Good career Gordie and thanks for sticking by us during the SL war and not playing for St George. Here's a token job on the board, don't worry we'll tell you what to do."

he'll do well. I think he will give the fans a voice and whether you think hes sharp or not, he will speak his mind and say whats he's thinking, not what others want him to think....

I also agree mark coyne would be an asset as well somewhere in the nrl

Exactly.

Tallis, the contract cheat.

Tallis, the bloke who said that origin III 2000 shuold be cancelled because QLD were 0-2 down, and played like a squid in game III in his states most embarrassing moment.

Tallis, the bloke who made a career about arguing with Bill Harrigan, including calling the ref a cheat, and refusing to go to the sin bin.

Tallis, who abused a section of the crowd with a fingered salute - seen by tens of millions of people worldwide - after misreading a fans sign.

Tallis, the thug.

Oh what a marvellous choice of a man to be an administrator of our game.

What's next? Tricky Trindall for NRL CEO?

Another way for News LTD to balls up our game. And men of the ilk of Mark Coyne get ignored.

Tallis, the champion footballer.

Tallis, the inspiring captain.

Tallis, the man with the balls to stand up for what he believes in.

He won't be a puppet. His pride won't let him.

PS. I don't think he mis-read that sign.

When did he stand up for what he believed in? Breaking contracts, or what he believed in a year before?

Being a champion footballer doesn't make a great administrator. Ask Mal Meninga

BTW, do you think News Ltd would have appointed him as THEIR rep if he was going to do what HE thougt?

Itr's easier to be a puppet if you are not capable of much thought. Tallis isn't on the board to think!

So are you, but I toss tennis balls to the kids - your activity is a solo one in the shower.

Nice to think that Tallis' abuse was, in your eyes, appropriate. In my household, my kids thought such behaviour was appropriate after that. Took me a long time to stamp that out.

But seeing your reply confirms that such people are role models to you.

no, sports people are NOT my role models.
Fans do NOT have the right to do what they please at sporting events..like creating signs that have nothing to do with the actual sportsman.
I take it as a parent you approve of children taking signs and abusing sportspeoples mothers..

Tallis will do as he is told by News Ltd or he will be out of a job. The fact is he is one of three News reps on the board so all of their decisions will be decided by News. No matter what he thinks he will have to vote with News otherwise he will be given the arse

No I don't.

Even if that sign DID say 'pig" which it was leter proved not to, there were meny options open to Tallis. A more prudent one would have been for him to alert his team manager, who could have organised to have security remove the banner at the start of the game. Better option than letting the banner be broadcast for the entire match, and then make a clown out of your self in front of millions of impressionable kids.

But that requires thought. Tallis was holding the door open when God issued that ability.

If News Ltd wanted a Bronco on the board, I'd much prefer them to employ Kevin Walters - a bloke who brings all the positive attributes Gordon does (not that thre's many of 'em). He also brings integrity, and a large chunk of common sense.

That's why people who think Tallis will be a voice for the people are so utterly wrong on so many fronts. News want a voice for them. That's why they would employ Tallis -I dare say in the same way Roger Rogerson would employ Neddy Smith, as a bloke incapable of his own thoughts who would happily do your bidding, using his intimidation to get a point through.

Gordon Tallis is certainly not likely to be the next big player in the corporate world.

But I do hope that he can read properly. It must help when voting on drafted motions.

tallis equal to richard branson and or gerry harvey -

Do you mean news ltd is paying the debt of the sl years?? - they are taking millions out of the game to pay for they say the debt they incurred as a result of super league.

Fittlers got more business sense that tallis and if you were to put a footballer on a board you would put him on it - his latest business venture is the resort/estate on the central coast which he is a third partner in with ricky stuart and the bloke from wizard home loans.

I would rather see Ron Coote on the board to replace the other ex Rooster John Brass

Coyne can piss off and stick to the NRMA.

And Fitler? Give me strength! Politis has enough of a say in League already.

Congrats Tallis - hears hoping that the smaller voices in the game get a hearing at the Board.

i dont think it was ever proven to say "rig" there were sections of the media who commented that they saw the sign and that it did not say "rig".
