Sims downgraded to one match. He will be gutted still.

Free to play Canberra! That's something. Still wrong.
1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, any weeks is a freakn disgrace for a tackle that the opposition players, referees, touch judges, video refs had no issue with at the time and nothing shown to prove otherwise since. I am disgusted with this.

Where is our CEO on this. It seems only old boys like our the right coach for the right time head coach gets his support.

Possm I can only agree wholeheartedly. The CEO must stand up to this unfair treatment of one of the club's (and the game's) cleanest and most positive players - he owes it to Sims and he owes it to the club. Time to stand up Mr Johnston.

F*cking joke of a decision!
Fair enough if its late but Morgan engaged him at the line so it wasn't and it also wasn't high.
So what have they got? Oh, just suspend him as a reaction to the concussion. Don't worry about Corey Normans broken jaw earlier in the season though. The nrl has lost me on this one.
NRL, on borrowed time....
With
I was struggling with this as well. But I think it comes down to being named. He wasn't named in the Dragons game this week so he can't play. He was named in the SOO so that's the one he misses out on as a result of the ban That's the only way that missing both games makes any sense.

The whole Chris Close and Black Pearl having a whinge about it and demanding 2 QLDers be on the committee put the final nail in his coffin. The whole thing is farcical. It's definitely losing it's appeal.

as mentiond before we become the sacrificial lambs everytime theres a clampdown or just a brainwave idea from nrl that once applied to us never seems to be used again or the similar infraction isnt that similar according to the nrl - remember frizz and the touch judge and how later incidents were deemed less than frizzes .Well we as a club should become whistleblowers and highlight each and every tackle in any game that is the same as tariqs . The NRL are so concerned with concussion ( and rightly so ) then saints management should force the nrl to have consistency ..
I am over how Saints always cop full freight on any offence and then it all goes quiet . At least he got downgraded and hes got a week to rest the body . Hell be right to cover the burn out of vaughan and frizz

So the criteria that was used to charge Sims are as follows

NRL counsel Peter McGrath convinced the panel that Sims "veered into carelessness" by making first contact to Morgan's head.

"It was direct contact to the head, it was high, and in circumstances where the player has passed the ball," McGrath said.

"Lateness is an element, but not a particularly importantly one in this incident. What we are dealing with is direct contact with the playmaker's head.

So, the new bar is if contact is first made with the head and the player has already passed the ball, then at least a 1 week suspension.

So, give me your best guess as to how long before this new rule is broken?

What gets me is that he has to miss an Origin now. Usually an Origin game counts for more and the offence pretty bad to warrant missing such a big game. A decider as well.

Slater got off for a blatant shoulder charge just so he could get his farewell game.

The inconsistency is mind blowing.

Watch how many identical tackles don’t warrant a charge or suspension for the rest of the year. I bet it will happen several times this weekend. I’m rapidly starting to lose enthusiasm for a sport I used to love.

In the good old days when rugby league players never had to shave their damn legs and men were men there was one hard and fast rule - you had your 15 minute ‘softening-up ‘ period in each and every game . Sure there were a few stray fingers about the face ( ask Freddy Jones what happened to his eyes each time he packed down against South Sydney in a scrum ) .

The point is there was also a line that a player never crossed in that era and that is downright thuggery on a defenseless player , particularly one who is completely wrapped up by other defenders. There are presently a number of cowardly cheap shot merchants who could use a stretch in the big house at Long Bay where they would quickly be taught some manners .

Back to the present - there should be one rule for all over the top incidents and that is to be sent from the field of play immediately . The referees need to be allowed to act upon this and the Judiciary should instruct them to do so , no more pussyfooting around with the thugs who continually get away with the finger jobs - Maguire on 2 separate occasions was fined for his exploratory eye surgery on players - fined only , I find that disgusting , he should had been sent off and given a manatory 10 week suspension , perhaps then he will clean up his act .

Tariq Simms is not in that category , he merely has a tackling technique that unfortunately in this instance was slightly mistimed , nothing more than that - most certainly not a down and out cheap shot merchant as the grubs I mentioned earlier .

Rant over with - feel much better for getting that off my chest .

An absolute joke. There will be other hits just as ‘bad’ this week which will go unnoticed and players will NOT be cited. The suspension is not the result of some dark NRL conspiracy against St George, rather it’s because we are an easy target, no media mates and with no CEO willing to scream and shout. At least Mary said something to try and shield Tariq, what about our glorious leader? Doust was poor but his successor has been just as weak. I’m really crappy.

Absolute rubbish.

First contact was Morgans shoulder with Sims chest.

Total b#llsh1t decision by the judiciary. However, if there is one positive to come out of this it's that Tariq won't be smashing Hunt and Norman in the SOO game. When he is wearing the blue Jersey everyone in maroon is fair game.

not to mention how many $$$ this costs Tariq and his family for missing on a SOO match payment.

So you agree then that it was a grade 1 and not a grade 2, which was the original charge?
I could accept Grade 1 or 2 (naturally, being a Saints fan I'm happy it was downgraded to Grade 1, i.e., 'Least Severe').

Yes, it's f**ked he misses an Origin decider.

Yes, it's f**ked there is no consistency re Sivo v Norman tackle.

However, Sims made contact with the head. As such, he sits down for a week.

Klemmer shits all over Sims anyway (going off this years form).

Hopefully Cleary's leg is f**ked to make sure the Blues get the 'W'.

spot on, easy targets, we cop it every time. We need to be more like Bellamy, he would never have copped this lying down, no way. Johnston has been awol as usual, he is a disappointment.

Good point , that is the last thing the Dragons need - is to sustain injuries inflicted by our own players bashing one another .
