Tasmanian Rugby League

Hi

As you may know, I have posted often here about the game and its progress down here.

After a lot of hard work by a lot of great people, we are basically dead on our feet.

There has been no commitment by the ARL to development here.

The four remaining Clubs are basically gone as officials are tired, and sick of empty promises.

Apparently, Officials from the NRL cannot open their emails.

If they do, they do not read them.

Sadly enough, getting the game going here would be relatively easy, but, sadly, it is a difficult task when we do not get a Development Officer.

After 5 years of busting my ass with other wonderful people, and after five years of empty promises it is fair to say the great game of Rugby League has no future here because those who are meant to care simply do not.

Yes we do have a 'nice little comp' here. But after five years of heart and soul, it may well be gone.

And yes - this post expects a response. But sadly - watch the spin.:x

The NRL is more interested in getting a bunch of expats in Mongolian jerseys to play a bunch of expats in Serbian jerseys than to put in the hard yards to actually grow the game in this country. Seriously the majority of people in 4/6 of the states don't know the difference between league and union.

RL should be the undisputed number 2 sport in every state outside of NSW/QLD before anyone in the NRL starts messing around with meaningless tournaments in far flung corners of the globe.

Sorry to hear el busto. I moan about the lack of investment in WA but compared to the way the game is ignored in other affiliated states we are well off, the Storm game showed the potential in Tassie, the fact that after nearly two years the arlc still has no growth strategy for the game outside nsw and qland is a fcking disgrace! What are all these people at NRL hq doing? They even have an affiliated states manager now, not that he seems to do anything.

Well here is my tale of woe mate:

I wrote to the Storm on behalf of the TRL suggesting a partnership based on the successful Melbourne Victory/Tas Soccer relationship - no response.

Since the Storm game in Hobart on 18 February 2012 - we have basically a nil response.

The VRL are apparently going to run the game down here - good luck to them - we pretty much have disappeared.

I have started this thread basically to get somebody to actually bother to say hello to us as those who still can be bothered are running away and doing other things.

I could say a lot more but why?

Nobody appears to care.

It's an east coast centric game mate, there is a reason after a hundred years plus RL is only popular in a hand full of places. Brilliant game run by absolute morons in most part. I was at a breakfast in Perth were Grant told us we weren't getting a club anytime soon but promised significant funding for grass roots, three NRL games a year and an international.surprise surprise they have delivered none of it. If it wasn't for cash convertors we wouldn't be running a SG ball team.

As they say, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Considering I heard CEO Smith repeatedley speak of western Sydney as "grassroots" when interviewed a few months back, instead of country RL as the interviewer was alluding to, I'd say they are turning a blind eye to anything that doesn't involve big player numbers.

Trouble is, the more they ignore , the lower the numbers get .

Said gentleman advised us we would get a DO. Nothing happened.

I could say a lot more but it is pointless.

I had a lot of optimism three years ago. Mate it is now clear these guys have no idea how to win a war. They pay lip service to us and do not care.

They did produce a nice strategic plan though lol

Well here is the good and bad news down here.

The bad news is that I have held my tongue about this neglect for years because I was worried it might have a negative effect on our comp.

The good news is we have nothing to lose as it has all basically gone. So I have no reason not to tell the bad news hahahahahah!

I'm not surprised. Look at the amazing development work and growth of the game in the Pilbarra as an example one DO can make. $1billion you'd think they could spend a couple of hundred grand in Tassie to grow the game.

weren't the panthers looking to do a partnership with Tasmania to do some games down there?

may be worth getting in contact with Penrith, as you both appear to have a similar goal?

The VRL are apparently going to run the game down here - good luck to them - we pretty much have disappeared.

That's crazy, that's like the NSWRL running the game in QLD or NZ.

Even AFL wouldn't give NSW the opportunity to run the game in QLD

Regardless of what value Tasmania can bring to the game you would think the NRL would have the decency to respond to emails sent to the. What does that tell us about the people running the game that they aren't.

It could be that with David Smith only recently coming to Australia may not know yet that Tasmania is part of Australia.

Yeah the maps at NRL HQ may show it as Van Dieman's Land so perhaps that's why they've never heard of Tasmania

It's a well known fact that Smith hates the Dutch.

Get the Roosters involved El B. they'll drag the NRL with them.
