Just curious who you would think is a winger that will defend better and attack better than Nightingale? Sure he has lost a yard of pace but he is still our best winger defensively.
Well he isnt. Mann played on the wing for around 10 games late last year and scored three times the tries that nighty scored all year. True! And Mann was not beaten once in those 10 games. He punches well above his weight. I am sad to see Nighty go....but we need tries.. and Mann scores plenty! Its time.

The problem is that we can groom Dufty / Field at fullback, select our two best centres in Milne and Dugan but where does Mann play. Does he replace McCrone or does he play on the left wing? Can we play Dufty at fullback and Field in the halves at the same time?

If Dugan stays at FB Mann is in our 2 best centres and 2 best wingers and should therefore play centre.
If Dugan goes to RC then Mann becomes 2nd or 3rd best centre and probably goes to the wing to allow Milne to be in 1st grade.
Anything but these combinations weakens the outside backs.
Lafai, Aitken and Nightingale are all inferior to Mann.

Cronulla game Prediction. If no changes to our team, Sharks 38 Dragons 6

If changes to our halves AND centres, Sharks 28 Dragons 14

If Nighty is ALSO dropped, Sharks 22 Dragons 18
So you are changing our halves, centers and winger for this game. So who are the halves?

No point naming a team because as we all know 90% of this forum members want either Field, Dufty, Mann or even all 3 of them in our team As do I !!!

But it's not gonna happen so it's all irrelevant !!! Lafai will be there, Aitken will be there, McCrone will be there and Dugan will be fullback unless injury to any of these guys.

As Possum say we all see it but they don't. They beign the coaching staff. !!!!

I for one may not agree with throwing juniors into the fire but one by one at least we do need to blood them and give them experience and that not gonna happen by sitting on the bench for 72mins and playing 8 mins ..... not that Mann (leading tryscorer and probably one of our best attacking options) needs experience.

Many on here could see it and despite it being 'out there', advocated changes to our backline. Changes were not made and the problems identified were proved correct.

My point is, that if forum members can see these things, why can't our coaching staff?

Analysis paralysis?

Playing favourites?

Vested self interest?

Fear of change?

Lack of vision?

Who can say?

What is clearly evident is that team selection has to date not reflected the potential best 17 being selected.

Instead the same players are repeatedly selected, even after poor performances, with little evidence of an attempt to rectify issues, or even try new combinations.

Hopefully this week we see some changes to improve our centres at least.

Milne is a must imo.

Id love to see Dufty given a go at F/B but if he is not in their plan and Field is the chosen F/B then lets do it.
My team
1. Field (if hes our supposed future fullback)
2. Dufty
3. Milne
4. Dugan - Lets just get it over with already and move him to the centres
5. McDonald
6. Widdop - Say what we want but he is in form at the moment but needs more ball
7. Mann - Has to be given a run and is better than McCrone plus Field Dufty and Mann can be rotated during the game if required.
8. Vaughan
9. McInnes
10.Sims
11. Thompson
12.Frizzell
13. DeBelin

14. Packer - I feel he is better coming off the bench as an impact player and his best games have shown this
15. Host
16. Leilua
17. Aitken - Can cover backline by coming into centres as there is plenty of shuffling options on the field and can also possibly play as a running outside back

You are getting very close to the money with your thoughts.
Ultimately we will look something like that with Hunt coming on board next year.
Surely it is not up to Hunt to waist his 1st year (whilst in his prime) while we take newby's and stick them in 1st grade next year when all the prep can be dome this year.

I doubt Mann and Milne will be at the club next year and Dufty will never play wing. Also Sims at 10?

If it is already being articulated by the club that Field to FB and then to 5/8 so where do you think Dufty will play?
Sims has already said himself that he has transitioned from edge to centre so that looks a done deal.
Mann was supposedly off to the Titans but they are quickly chasing Copely.
So maybe Mann and Milne might be still be here and if that is the case I still think Vinnie is close to the money.

Crush as i said earlier our team thoughts are irrelevant as no one listens but that's my team if i had to pick. Yes i agree Mann and Milne will probably go and u can't blame them ... Lafai ahead of both of them ???? In what universe ??? obviously ours. Dufty - Well its been said that both Field (even though id love to see him at half) and Masters are ahead of him so i probably see him going as well ... but in saying that i'm happy to leave Nightingale on the wing. Sims has been playing front row all year so far

I like, but agree with Crush re Sims/packer.
Such a shame we have McAnchor, Hornbrake and Youngblock as our coaches.

I think Dufty will play where Adam Quinlan did, in reserve grade.
Regarding Milne and Mann, they are not being selected for first grade and are off contract at the end of this year. That to me says that they will move on or be moved on.

I seriously doubt that McGregor will still be coach in a couple of month's time, so hopefully we get a new coach who actually utilises two of our best backs, i.e. Mann and Milne, before they sign with another club who will allow them to be stars. Maybe then they will stay.

I must say, McGregor's utter refusal to change the team (unless it's detrimental - such as dropping Milne for Lafai) has made this the most frustrating couple of years as a supporter that I have ever experienced. I seriously thought Price was the worst I would ever see, but I've really been proven wrong.

The team on paper deserves the first few rounds.. lafais on a decent contract.. we resigned aitken.. im glad mary has mann in the 17 and Milne being named will put the centres on notice.. he will get his chance soon enough. Im not going to let 1 loss get me down its only early this week will either make or break what we started in round 1.
