Team of the 90's

Langer did pretty well against stuart in origin for what he had in front of him. Stuart had a monstrous forward pack in front him from 1990-1994 with the likes of Lazo, Harrogan, Sironen, Roberts and Clyde which made his job a little easier. Stuart still did a fantastic job, picking up MOM 3 times.

I was looking at David Middleton's selections from his books where he selects his team of the year. The players who appear the most are:

1. Michael Potter- 91,92,93
2. Rod Wishart- 91,94,95,96
3. Steve Renouf- 92,94,95,98
4. Andrew Ettingshausen- 90,91,96 / Terry Hill- 95,97,99
5. Willie Carne- 91,92,93
6. Brad Fittler- 92,93,94,95,96,97,99 (some of them were at lock)
7. Andrew Johns- 95,98,99
8. Glenn Lazarus- 90,92,93,96,99
9. Steve Walters- 91,92,93,94,95
10. Mark Carroll- 95,96,97
11. Paul Sironen- 90,93
12. Gorden Tallis- 98,99 / John Cartwright- 90,92
13. Bradley Clyde- 91,92,94

I think that is a fair enough team of the 90's.

i dont. i think that is a rubbish team
Johns ahead of Langer and Stuart?
Potter ahead of Lockyer, Mullins, Brasher etc?
Carne ahead of Sailor, Handcock, Mullins and more?
Carroll ahead of Harrigan?
No Mal Meninga or Laurie Daley?

Give me a break!

Pretty obvious who the player of the 90's was. :D

And to think he's overrated. Didn't play consistent football week-to-week.

*waits for inevitable reply on why he's extremely over-rated*

I knew i could count on you, Charles. :) :p

just playing with ya.
Fittler isnt over rated...but having said that he is not one of my all time favs. You dont rep for australia and NSW 25 plus times, play over 330 games if you dont have ability.

Fitler is one of the best i ever saw but i still think he gets more accolades than he deserves sometimes. Kenny and Daley were just as good but don't seem to be put on as high a pedestal as Fitler does.

And no Meninga...the only excuse someone has for not choosing Mal is if he didn't watch him play, the best thing about him being captain is that his peers respected him in a way that cannot be explained nor I think repeated, I have NEVER seen someone admired by his peers so much, no one ever bagged him "probably size helped him" but he is a champion in every sense of the word.

1. Lockyer
2. Sailor
3. Meninga (c)
4. Renouf/McGregor
5. Nadruku
6. Daley
7. Stuart
8. Lazarus
9. Walters S
10. Webcke
11. Sironen
12. Clyde
13. Fittler

14. Harragon
15. Tallis
16. Menzies
17. Johns

No way is Noa deserved to be in the team! Good winger yes, but players like Wishart and ET are more deserving

Maybe ET your right, Girdler might be a handy guy on the wing too, he always played good since starting at Illawarra

Girds is a centre..and a true centre at that. Wouldnt mention him with Sailor, Wishart, ET, Hancock..even Willie Carne. Carne was a gun winger in the early 90s.
ET was more flexible. Known as a centre yes, but played alot of his rep career as a winger and sometimes fullback

Regardless, a team with Stuart, Daley, Lockyer, Fittler, Johns and Meninga is going to receive a lot of respect
