To be fair, one Matt Gidley was supposed to be wearing the 6 in 2001.

That would have been good! I still believe Gidley could have made a good 5/8 after how well he played there in 1997. Unfortunately in his brief appearances at 5/8 in 2001, a bloke names Sean Rudder was halfback.

I think Gids only appearance at 6 was a trial against Parra that year, he broke his leg, and in went Rudder.

Thats what I was getting at. It was a broken leg that kept the most dynamic centre/wing combo together.

I could be wrong but I do believe that it was in 2001 when gidley played 5/8. After Johns did his knee and was out for 10 or so weeks, rudder and gidley were half and 5/8 for what was 4 games I think.
