There could be a downside. I worry that with so much experience missing from the team, the poor bugger will be left to sink or swim on his own, and his confidence could take a hell of a hammering. With the mood around the team recently it doesn't feel like the best time to be chucking a debutant in the mix. I hope I'm wrong though.

No downside, keen to see how Lino goes. Makes sense to give him a chance.

If he turns out to be just an average first grade player then it's a shame we can't hide him out on the wing, as he's an excellent goalkicker.

I had no confidence in Johnson's kicking this season.

It has to be a significant factor that in our most sucessful seasons - i.e. 2002, 2008, 2011 - we had gun goalkickers.

JT will be drooling in anticipation..

I have a feeling Lino May provide the energy that we have been missing since SJ got injured. Have a reason to watch the game now at least

I would have to agree, but at least season isn't on the line anymore.
NSW Cup team will miss him.
How much has he trained with the top team? Combinations etc?
Tui was always apparently stepping in at training if Chad or SJ were off doing something else (Physio, Twitter, Facebook, Instagraming), not sure if Lino has been doing the same.

But wont be hard to out perform Chads last few outings.

The SMH today referred to our game against the Cowboys as a 'must win' for us. Our season is still alive!

:D

So we need to win all 3 games to finish on 28 points,
Then we have to overcome a -71 points differential, so need to win each game by 24 points, then Manly, Bulldogs, Dragons and Sharks can not win another game and we finish 6th!

Season on!!!

For f@ck sake ...... LINO??? ....... Dam it, the one highlight of going to the game tomorrow was knowing that id be on tv when Townsend inevitability boots the ball out on the full and I catch it in the stand.

I guess that just leaves watching Hurrell make the other players laugh in the warm up as the only highlight. Having said that Sonny Bill Wright might put on a show and Dominique Jennings is due for a big game.

50+ For the Cowboys. I hope whoever watches this tonight they have something strong to consume to make them a bit numb. JT is gonna have a field day. And our points differential is gonna be a record for our team by the end of this 2015 season.

I do like Lino though so I wish him the best but Baldy Head left it way too late for this man.

She'll be right, Big Ben will gain huge metres with every run, and the Chad will kick to Manu on the last play. If it gets really tight then TL will put Fish into space and he'll go the length. We're gonna be sweet, enjoy it.

On the subject on professionalism, I found it interesting that the photo of Lino being handed his jersey had the rest of the boys grinning, photobombing etc.

I totally disagree. What would be worse for a players confidence:

a) Playing NRL and getting a serve by one of the best teams in the comp, or...

b) Playing a high standard in NSW cup while watching the Chad (who is leaving at the end of the year so not even a long term option) go from low point to low point in first grade (and the team averaging less than 2 tries a game over 5 games) and still not having any faith shown in you to do better?

If it were me, I would struggle with (b) far more.

I may stream the audio in the background whilst I sort out some stuff I need to do in the house. I wonder how many times I'm gonna hear "Thurston for the try. Thurston for the break. Thurston puts Taumalolo in. This is going to be ugly as f*ck.

Will enjoy this slaughter so heat is put on to the powers that be who ran this ship into the Bermuda Triangle.

Honestly, no point in having Lino on contract if he doesn't get a run with Johnson, TL and Chad all out. This is why we have reserves players, so they can step up if we need them to.

He has been promoted to the 25 squad for next year anyway, so I presume this means he will be our number 3 or 4 half. He is likely to get trounced today, but so long as he plays alright and has a decent, positive kicking game then it will be a good sign. Always possible we lose one of our halves again next year and he has to step up, at least we will have blooded him already by then.

And gives us something to watch today, so that's always nice.
