Perham played halves this weekend for the reserves and his team won.

Maybe he is being groomed as a halves option. Played 5/8 all through his schoolboys years.

I’m over sj. I think we got the best of him. Plus he’s require huge money to get him back.

Nicho Hynes is off contract. Tyrone May? The list is slim pickings.

Townsend is nikorima levels of plod and Maloney will be 35 next year.

Unless we are able to convince someone decent to come, I think we need to be resigned to the fact that our halves will be shit for some time.

I think we will play around with a SOS/turner/Perham/nikorima/CHT/hell, even hiku combo until we find a combo that isn’t horrific, and work on our forwards making big meters To compensate for our average spine.

11. Murchie
12. Tohu
13. Jazz
14. Kodi
15. Ah Mau
16. BMM
17. Katoa

In
Turner - played last 20 at centre. Montoya pushes out one
Hayze - Been playing 6 at Redcliffe, so being groomed for role. Kodi pushes to bench as dummy half/halfback impact
Bunty - back from suspension
JTB - Pretty sure available from this week
Murchie - i’m a fan. Katoa looking a bit unsure of role. Off the bench for impact
Tohu - on the edge where he’s best

Out
Fus - needs a kick in the pants
Evans - had little impact when go forward was needed
Ale - Played well but Bunty and JTB are starters

Dragons have a strong dummy half game. We’ve got to be smart there on D and also get Egan/Kodi running with ball in hand

Hayze to centre, Montoya on the wing, Fus and Maumalo paper scissors rock for who doesn't get dropped.

Actually Ken can go, I still have a sliver of hope for Fus.

I'm surprised by that, to me Fus is cooked. He just doesn't try that hard. Absolute waste of an athletic talent really, and he's one of those guys who I don't even feel like he could go somewhere else and become motivated again. Yeah Ken has shortcomings but at least he has a dig. A proper finishing winger on the other side might take some of the focus off him as well.

Look at someone like Tom Ale, who made more meters in less time than Katoa. Came on and busted a gut.

I haven’t seen much from Katoa this year and the stats kinda back that up. I’m just saying when it comes down to it I’d rather have Murchie or Ale over him at the moment.

Second season syndrome for Katoa? It's a real thing that happens so, so much. These guys go hard in their rookie season then face up next year, knowing exactly how much of a slog it is and it can become mentally taxing for them. Plus the whole being away from home thing, especially for a Polynesian player I have no doubt is an issue too.

Really small numbers of visitor permits being issued by Tonga....the waiting list for the few Iso spots is long....you make a good point, he is a very long way from home.

Watching the Dragons this week, we are being lined up for a really ugly hiding.

If they turn on what they did against the Eels the score could really blow out big time.

And unfortunately the best thing in Saints game was their defence.

Brown has this round six game to stick to whatever tatters are left of his 2021 campaign plan....then he will be looking to shake a few people up I imagine.

Montoya is a pleasant surprise, has some wheels, uses them to kick chase, defends well, trys hard....pretty much everything our other outside backs are not.

Pompey to be fair is also a tryer, he could be good with better role models around him, better play makers.

We basically shouldn't care too much about who is picked, we are already short and in scramble mode, nay all out survival mode.

We now cling to the hope we stay somewhere in the mix at the top of the also rans outside the eight till we get our two actual NRL centers back....then limp along till AFB is fit and maybe we are a chance late....

That Manly game is really going to come back to bite us at the back end of the season I think.

Maybe I’m just eternally optimistic, but I feel that we’re not too far off. It astounds me that our best half of footy was when we were throwing it around and offloading at will, yet we’ve put that away? Also with SOS running as much as he has, I think it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the team figure out they need to run off of him as he’s drawing defenders. Our defence has largely been solid, but hopefully with a few more forwards back this week, we can get a bit of a roll on.
Whether it’s Kodi or Turner in the 6, we need our playmakers running. Good front foot ball and players in motion and we’re in business.
After last weeks performance there is literally only one way from here - up!

I actually checked a little while ago (about 3 games ago) and there was a pretty big correlation between our offloads and us winning.

When we had more than 15 offloads a game we won about 70-80% of those games. We’re far more likely to lose a game when we have less than 8.
Maybe a pretty obvious stat, but if we pull those offloads out more we’re in with a good chance
