Ha. Always funny reading this thread after the result. Playing in Newie, into a howling gale and after 20 minutes most of you thought we should have been 20 in front or something.

I've got no defence.......it was a stressful match and I say what I'm thinking at that second. Probably best to hold off from now on.......probably won't though.

There was nothing wrong with the effort, just some poor execution in attack and decision making in defence.

agreed.

my gutless comment was more a reaction to takarangi's effort in the first try. yeah fine you were beaten but don't give up. Everyone can see old man Houston running up inside of Uate but Taka doesn't bother making an effort to get inbetween uate and Houston. Its poor form. Sandow does the exact same thing with Mcmanus' try in the second half.

In both of these situations these players had opportunities to position themselves to help other defending players but didn't. I reckon Arthur will highlight both of these efforts and make backing up in defence a talking point for the week.

Actually, Taka was screaming and pointing to Folau to take Uate and Taka was looking over his shoulder at Houston, indicating he'd take Houston - then the next minute, he totally ignores Houston and chases Uate.

Had he stayed on Houston, they might not have scored.

Im very pleased with the win however those first 10 minutes were far from acceptable. I put it to you that the teams effort was poor throughout this period specifically once the break or overlap was created by the Knights, how many Parra defenders turned and chased? They made no effort to follow the play whatsoever. If someone had then maybe the Knights pensioner edge forward may not have scored untouched.

They showed again there is limited mental ability when after the first half we kicked off into the wind and got the ball back but didn't come up with a better plan to stop Newcastle doing it and they did it more than once.

If Sandow converted the last try we would be an extra place up the ladder too.

Agreed, the difference between getting into the top 8 or missing out on being in the finals.

Luke Burt missing the kick @ Parra Stadium vs Tigers 2010 was another example of getting into Golden point and another shot at getting into the finals. I was @ that game - gut wrenching but not as bad as the capitulation against the dogs in the major semi back in 1998 - that was my worst experience at a footy game so far.

It is pretty tough to stop the opposition getting the ball from a short kick off. Firstly because they are running forwards and secondly the team kicking off will have more players around the ball to collect the spoils than the receiving side.

Having said that - it has always made me wonder why every kick off is not short. Great attacking opportunity if you retrieve the short kick. And if you don't, it is not ideal but sides are charging 20-30 metres from kick offs anyway so not that worse off really.

When Houston received the ball I immediately thought "Oh no, Houston, we have a problem"...
