What about MGT?

1. CNK 2. Tuaupiki 3. King Ali 4. Pompey 5. MGT? Far better than laydown Eddie

Not Harper though, geez he looks laboured even in a winning side

Berry will play. Ed blew his chances. They tried really hard to make an NRL player out of Ed. Also there are a number of options before using Ed, there is E I T, MGT and even Harper who I think was signed to avoid having to call on Ed.

Also we are in a rebuilding year, and as such Webster has been prepared to try lots of high risk calls on his squad make up, none more so than his halves choices.

We saw last night what a rebuild halves duo look like under pretty sustained pressure. Timing and positioning was well off, and that usually means communication is not happening effectively.

The good news is that we should expect this from a half back that has not played his footy as a half back.

And we should expect these problems (you see it in other NRL teams with new pairings) till these two get enough game play (a full season minimum - ergo to argue this isn't a rebuild is semantics from my pov).

People don't like that language, rebuild is a dirty word to some, a cop out, well it isn't from the way I look at it. This is a positive thing, it means there is a future to look forward to, one that is planned and therefore more likely to change under performance longer term.

What I do like about the last two weeks is it feels a bit like 2001, the year Kevin Campion introduced grit to this club, this is like then, there is a feeling that we are building something that in future could be exciting.

We are winning ugly through courage and superior fitness.

Berry doesn't look like he would last one game in first grade. I think his injury has really screwed his body. MGT sustaining an injury too. I'd put the better Ed in and push Pompey to the wing.

The only change should be Rog, which means Berry in and Pompey to wing. 4th game and only 18 players used is positive

This is on the the money.
Only change that should be made imo.

That said, Metcalfe and CHT need to be performing better overall. TMM and Boyd can't do much worse. Not that I'd suggest we change both at the same time.

Should be an absolute cracker of a game.

Some blue chip and form players in both sides.

No one would have predicted this last year.

Both sides should be full of confidence they can make a statement!

ok, here goes-

1- Nicoll-Klokstad
2- Tauipiki
3- Leiataua
4- Berry
5- Pompey
6- Martin
7- Metcalf
8- Fisher-Harris
9- Egan
10- Barnett
11- Niukore
12- Capewell
13- Clark

Res- Ford, Vaimaga, Halasima, Walker

I honestly don't mind if they retain CHT. I've heard Walker say that he expects the combination to come right after a few rounds. But yeah, Martin is in top form.

To be honest, there's quite a few players who I would love to see in this team. Healey. Laban, Afoa. Ale. There's lots of knocking at the door.

The halves battle looks pretty willing to me.

Benji seems to be unsettled as to the Galvin story and the extent of the liberty he wants to give him.

You’ve got some mighty workhorse forwards. I like Nikore and Egan goes ok.
Panthers haven’t been able to replace Fish.

I think we might out-match you in actual numbers for pacific islands heritage players and of course Benji is solid NZ.

So beyond the footy, it should have a good friendly atmosphere for all the boys.

I’ve been wondering about Bunty, when he’s on, he’s on.

I think you want cnk at his old optimum. He was the best fb in the game for a liitle while there. He had speed and elusive. X factor.

Bunty is playing well in NSW Cup at the moment. He is a victim of props that play big minutes, but I'd say he'd be first through the door if there are any injuries

We saw peak CNK on Friday - 314m, 95pcm, 7 tackle breaks
In some respects. That was absolutely what we needed on Friday in an arm wrestle, but peak CNK had a lot more zip and threats in the opposition 20. He carries out of yardage incredibly well and by all reports is defensively a glue. But without a lot of creativity in our spine, we could do with more in that respect

I have no problems with rebuild, you can still make the 8 while rebuilding. But I'd question whether that's Webster's approach. He's been very guarded on minutes for young guys, Leka played more on Friday because Niukore went down.

I see what you mean about 2001 but that side had Toopi, Jones, Ali, Webb, Tony, big elusive wingers, it had points in it and just needed the hardened approach that Campion and co had. Will we see repeats of the Manly game this year?

Metcalf and CHT are clearly a project but gee it feels like a 2-3 year one to be truly successful. Maybe that's the plan.
