I wouldn’t call Niukore a plodder, I think he’s the opposite if anything. He brings genuine threat but tends to drift in and out of games a bit.
Yea chuck him in I reckon. He’s a genuine 7, team’s riding high after last weekend... if you're going to debut a rookie half it may as well be when everyone else is feeling up.Jett is youngish and relatively inexperienced. But you have to start somewhere. Hansen didn't play reserves last week I thought. It will be a gamble to play Cleary but one worth taking?
Agree on that assessment, just used the wrong word. Plodders are predictable players with very low ceilings - thankfully I don’t think we really have any right now. Pompey is probably the closest.I'll agree Niukore brings genuine threat... on paper, we just don't seem to see enough of it. He'll justify his size only on occasion and then suddenly he falling off tackles and compounding it with lazy penalties.
Maybe plodder wasn't the right word but it's always felt little value for money.
Webby - why rush Capewell back. Just stick with what worked last game and bring him off the bench. Seriously!!
Does anyone know if the Boyd hammy thing was legit in the end? or did the media get mixed up with TSS and just run with it?
That seems a bit harsh on Pompey, if Ford can shed the plodder (I would have used tutae) moniker in 6 games then surely Pompey should have last year when he was actually one of our most consistent backs.Agree on that assessment, just used the wrong word. Arguably players with high enough work rates shed the plod tag - I tend to reserve it for players who are consistently mediocre and never offer much in the way of attacking threat. Pompey at his best is a bit better than plod when he runs good lines for tries, and Ford sheds it on sheer workrate. Mannering wasn’t a plodder for the same reason. For me Pompey and Ford are both plodders because "plodder" refers simply to one who "plods"....someone who according to various dictionary definitions:
"walks doggedly and slowly with heavy steps"
"works in a slow and persevering but uninspired manner"
This is no more than a mild criticism - I don't personally enjoy watching plodders, but I that's just me. Many low-impact high-work rate players are popular with fans. Michael Luck plodded the house down for a decade and he was beloved. Many plodders have cracked rep football (rightly or wrongly).
What has really gone haywire this season is that Ford's levels of skill and athletic talent (aside from his sheer aerobic fitness which is obviously excellent) seem to have come up for debate whereas to me even with his improved form he's as much a plodder as he is a man with two arms and two legs. He is pure 100% plodder DNA.
I don't consider Luck a plodder at all. He was class. The Warriors have had some iffy selections trying to replicate him.For me Pompey and Ford are both plodders because "plodder" refers simply to one who "plods"....someone who according to various dictionary definitions:
"walks doggedly and slowly with heavy steps"
"works in a slow and persevering but uninspired manner"
