Well f**k me, go Raper. I have wanted Mellars on the bench for ages.
The question now is how will Mellars be used?
Will he come on as a backrower? I doubt it, but I would like that.
Next choice for me, Mellor cramps off, Covell to left centre, Mellars to left wing.
What I see happening - Mellor off Mellars on.
Either way I do expect the 20 minute theory for Mellars.

I figure Stosic has surrendered to many times for Raper.
I am expecting Williams to get more game time, by playing front row when Stevo comes off.
Galloway with replace Maiava.
Leuluei on for Stevo but to left 2nd row with Reece playing front row.
Sully and Hilder of course.

Stosic is no first grader. I've never seen one bloke make so many ineffectual runs and tackles. He does a lot of work...but with no real result.

I'm interested in seeing how Mellars goes. Could be interesting to see a different centre/wing option being utilised. How has his form been in premier league?

I think Mellars will be used for the last 20 minutes..
Thats what usually happens with one of the players on the bench..

Stosic injured.

i would have liked to see dumas get a run, what a workhorse. but raper must have some reason for mellars. although its good to see some one else get a run.

Mellars off the bench interesting, he will be getting around 30 mins looking at the team with interchange.

Bailey & Gallen to go close to full game maybe 1 sub each around 75 mins a piece
Williams have been noticing Raper giving him more extended time first half depending how we are going in game and pace of it expect 30 mins and maybe whole half, these 3 players Bailey,Gallen& Williams imperative they dont get injured as they are the workhorses.

Hilder back from injury, how much time can he give us prob on 20 then sully for 20 before and after half then hilder for final 20, not much backrow for hilder this week.

Stevo just back from susp, plus bye, and Hutch starting need to roate these guys often, Leulai no more then 15-20 at a hit, can become very sloppy in defence, by looking at this Mellars will be seeing fair bit of work in pack on weekend. Galloway is another that doesnt do more then 20 mins straight.

I have some concern re the rotation of bench this weekend

I dont think keith will be getting 20 minutes in one go to be honest, he's good for 15 tops, same with stevo lately, those two will be off ons I reckon.

Vinnie Mellars, interesting. I hope he goes well.

I wonder where he'll end up? Backrow?

Its bs if Mellars is there to cover Mellor. You either play or you dont in the NRL these days.

Geez, that is a concern, Hutch lasting the longest of the three.

Maybe an indication of how important Raper feels Mellor is to the team. Get as much out of him as you can, but have a guy on the bench who can cover for him.

It will be interesting to see how Mellars goes. I haven't seen much of him this year, so its hard to comment. Based on what I saw last year, he seems to be one of our many players that fit into the "has potential" category. We need more than potential from a lot of these guys.

Manua seems to be getting plenty of raps - I would have liked to see him get a run on the bench, with Gallen or Bailey acting as cover for Mellor if he can't play out the 80.

Whats done is done though, and I hope Vince has a great game. If he can produce the goods, he could become the ideal bench player for us.

Last time I saw Mellars there were some serious question marks over his defence. Can any of the Newtown fans tell us if he has managed to improve it?

His defence at the Warriors was pretty good technically. If he lined you up, he'd make a good solid tackle. Where he could be shown up was on the fringes where there was more lateral space, he at times didn't read decoy plays all that well.

I always thought of Vince as more of a backrow prospect, A: for that very defensive reason, he had a very good work rate on D just didn't read all that well out wide, B: he is quite a lump of a lad, perhaps not the quickest over the first ten as far as centres go but pretty good over the 100. A couple of times at the Warriors during the game he played in the back row, and did fairly well.

Iafeta, did you see that big Vince was selected to play for the NSW residents team? On the wing no less.
They play the Qld equivalent before SOO 3
