TED - Family Guy Creators film

Except that in Ted the bear is actually the boy's life long toy that he's had since a kid, the toy is genuinely alive, and from what I can see the movie is is going to be based around Ted getting his own apartment and life.

Wilfred is about a dog that only 1 bloke actually can see, who essentially is just the personification of a dog in how he acts.

If we are going to say Ted is derivative of Wilfred, we might as well say that both are derivatives of You, Me and Dupree, Notting Hill and any number of movies that include a gross out room mate that interferes with the relationship of the main character.

As I said if anything is a rip off, Wilfred is a direct rip off of Brian from Family.
do you agree that Avatar is a complete rip off of pocahontas and dancing with wolves... or is it different because it's on another planet and the natives are blue?

the general premise is absolutely the same, the details are changed, but the premise is nearly identical. you can spin it all you like.

for the record, i'm not even saying this is a bad thing. there's nothing wrong with rehashing old ideas with a new spin on it. as you say, you very well can argue that most things are derivative of earlier works. you seem to find the idea far more distasteful than i do.

Avatar is much more Fern Gully than Pocahontas... has the rain forest and giant machinery and everything. Thats a genuine example of a completely lifted storyline, character base etc.

The absolute basic premise of boy meets girl, gross out character gets in way somehow, all live happily ever (I assume) is similar to dozens of movies. To me the only reason people are bringing Wilfred into it is because they both happen to be furry.

Then what the hell are you surprised about? There's an episode where I think it's Brian who flat out says black people are bad parents.

Looks hilarious, and shock horror is an original f**king idea not some warmed over cat turd based on a comic book, TV show or board game from the 60s.

Never seen wilfred?

It's not exactly an original idea. It may end up being funny, but I certainly don't have high hopes given the writing talent they've employed. The idea is pretty much straight lifted from Family Guy and American Dad as well.

American Dad can be quite funny and original at times. Family Guy has become complete shit.

American Dad has it's 'moments', it's hardly the pinnacle of cutting edge comedy though. Both series are extremely repetitive, and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to watch american dad, I'd certainly go out of my way to avoid family guy though.

Did I say I was surprised? I expected this kind of humour. It's still disappointing because I think he can do a lot better.

Agreed. I like American Dad, I watch it occasionally. But I can't stand Family Guy now.
