Millman showing real fight in that first set and had to hold on to make sure he didn’t go down a double break.

He forced Novak to a couple of deuces serving the set out but in 60mins Novak is too good 6-3 in the first set.

John doing us very proud though!

Great fight from Millman. Kept in the rallies and kept the ball deep but just doesn’t have the firepower. He sure makes his opponent work hard to beat him. Novak too good 6-3 6-4 6-4 in just under 3 hours. A lot of 25-28 shot rallies.

The humidity must be so bad there. Both players were saturated in sweat like they’d just been swimming.

The US Open just started.

I see Rafa manually did the draw again :D

Currently watching Shapovalov-FAA. Between these two and the likes of Zverev, Chung and Tsitsipas I think we're finally starting to see a worthy crop of youngsters coming through. I'm particularly excited about Tsitsipas over the next couple of years.

My tournament tip is for one of JMDP or Cilic to catch fire and pull off the surprise.

Well you’re in the final at least.

If anyone can beat Djoker atm it's a red lining Delpo.

He should be super fresh so definitely has a chance.

Del Potro is in fine form.
Nadal had no answer for it today.

Djokovic played very well and Delpo will struggle to put him away. The newly slowed USO courts remind me of the AO surface Djokovic loved pre-2017. He should win this well. Suddenly back within striking distance of Nadal’s slam tally.

The court speed has been so slow it's basically blue clay; only without the cushioning for the knees.

No wonder Nadal was busted after his 3 slugfest matches.

It's incredible how the USO has changed so much. And with the men being so consistent from the baseline if they continue with the slow hardcourts they'll grind the players into the dust.

4hr + matches aren't meant to be the norm.

I think the court speed for the last two AOs has been great. It rewards attacking play and guys like Nadal can still more than thrive.

The thing that didn't look good was the part where he walked up to the chair umpire in a bit of a tanty, wagging his finger and saying something about retiring, as though it was a threat. And then retired when he lost a set badly.

No doubt he was injured and no doubt Kyrgios is a often a twat on court, but I do agree that if it was a player of a lesser reputation carrying on the way Nadal did there'd be a lot of negative things said.

It was an epic meltdown.

And the umpire was left with no choice.

I'm not sure what's more shameful - Serena's conduct or that of the crowd.

It should have been a scene of overwhelming jubilation for Osaka but instead she was made to feel awkward.

@Danish are New Yorkers as bad as their US Open crowds suggest?

Serena, but is it really that surprising from her? she deserved all 3 violations. Got to laugh at her playing the sexism card and the media/ESPN saying she handled the situation well..wtf. Pity she wasn't playing a white girl, better save the racism card for next time. Naomi won herself plenty of fans (other than from NY bogans) she also destroyed Tsurenko, Gluschko and Sasnovich in 50 minutes.
