Shame about Kelepi, injury after injury but he's def not in the Loko class of injury prone player. He will come good just unlucky.

Lot more exciting playing NRL then being a back up for a super 15 side playing in front of 20 people on a cow patch. I doubt he would push for a starting spot in Union in his first year.

I dare say by choosing league last year over Union he sees his future in league, or he would have made the change.

This is also a fair point. Union can match league when it comes to poaching huge names but otherwise league has the edge in remuneration. It will probably be a few years until the ARU could be bothered throwing part of their marketing budget at Tepai Moeroa.

Some kid was playing on the wing for the Tigers Under 20's earlier in the year, and he has now been recently been playing for the Waratahs Super Rugby team.

I would imagine that Moeroa wouldn't be playing in some back up side if he went to an Australian Super Rugby team.

As for Union, they are losing some of their big names to Japanese and French Rugby because they can't compete with the salaries. His manager will be using this to drive up his price and rightly so but he won't get the money that was being offered in previous seasons. The biggest worry would be the Chiefs.

Rugby are in dire straights. I saw something that the ARU are looking for a private equity partner. Imagine the NRL having to sell a stake in the game now to News, Telstra or VB or something. Backward step.

Meamwhile, the Dogs are courting Beale and Izzy will go for the most cash.

I think that kid was playing nsw cup and was in his early twenty's and was probably on a basic nrl contract which would have been similar to what he could get in union, plus it was unlikely he was going to make it in league. So he had no option but to switch.

That players name is Fijian sensation Taqele Naiyavaro. He is born in 1991 and was playing in the Tigers NSW Cup team.

Thanks for that. I heard he was big (around 120kg) and could score tries, so what was the reason for him not getting an Nrl start? Being 23 I assume he may have had some issues with his game.

Being big and fast certainly helps in rugby league. In fact in the modern NRL you have to be one or the other (and ideally both). But you can be too big for rugby league, especially when it impacts a player's lateral movement and aerobic capacity.

Simply being stuck behind better backs. At the Tigers, Nofoaluma, Richards & Koroibete were better wingers than him. Whilst very powerful and fast, Taqele was prone to defensive lapses and often had trouble reading the game. Being picked for his athletic rather than his footballing ability, he found it difficult to become a complete winger - his aerial ability was often shaky too. However, his length of the field tries and general athleticism were nothing short of spectacular, and he was definitely a prospect in league. He was too good for NSW cup, but not good enough for NRL. Hence why Union was a viable option.

Exactly. Recycling the 10 is a killer for the biggest boppers. Union is much slower and so less aerobic fitness and more mass required

Talking about throwing him into the deep end.

He's got Burgess x3 or possibly 4 this week.
