I don't know for sure but there was a lot of very good legal opinion going on in there. I think the brains trust in there had it all worked out.

I’m pretty sure the contributors, failed to reach a verdict.

Lu were concerned about it, it’s their forum and they are entitled to pull it down.

I wasn’t there to offend anyone. Just putting views across as the discussion flowed. If I had offended anyone, I apologise and unreservedly retract.

Hopefully other posters subscribe to this sentiment.

Had a look at it a couple of times without contributing.... surprised it lasted as long as it did considering the case is currently before the courts. In the past the mods have been far more vigilant when people start judging the parties involved and coming to their own conclusions..... Hayne thread will be the next to go. Different story once the cases are concluded I guess.

I’m going to stay off the Hayne forum, it won’t present as well.

I liked the academic and reference to research posts the best, even if I couldn’t subscribe with the generalising and applications of the theories.

I really don’t want lu to get in any trouble with outside folk if that’s why it was pulled etc. We don’t want to lose the forum.

Anyway, I’m moving on.

I haven’t seen the carch. I hope he’s ok in the real world.

The earth is flat

I watched a doco on Netflix the other day called Behind The Curve, which followed a bunch of flat-earthers around. Weird stuff.

Early on the main guy says "I don't need science or mathematical equations to tell me the earth is flat. I can just see it. See that over there? That's Seattle. If the earth was round I shouldn't be able to see Seattle"

Err, you're standing on a beach at water's edge, Seattle is around 50km away and 50 meters above sea level, and you're pointing out high rise buildings. What do you think?

Later on a group of them go and spend $20,000 to buy some gyrometer or something, which is used for GPS, and run an experiment where they say if the earth rotates, as we're told, once a day, then that would be a 15 degree rotation in an hour. So they run it for an hour to see what it says.

"Oh it says the earth has drifted 15 degrees in the last hour. But we don't believe that. We think it's getting confused by the sky moving above us so we're going to try it again, but put it inside a box made out of lead so nothing can interfere with it"

An hour later: "Oh, it says the earth has drifted 15 degrees. But we don't believe that. So we're going to put the lead box inside an even bigger lead box to try to block out all interference".

I'm all for questioning dogma, but honestly at what point do you accept people way smarter than you, and with infinitely better resources, probably know a little more than you?

Weirdos...

It’s the same thing people would have as believe about a lot of services and products.

Banks and real estate agents telling us they care about us are my favourite flat earth stories.

Perhaps next year an alien will visit and declare us a trapezium.

Followed by a declaration that an application by the martians to have earth heritage listed has failed and we about to get re-zoned.

The intergalactic government hopes to turn us into sports stadium. There’s a few spaceship parking issues to resolve of course.
