Didn't Tallis once open a can of whoopass on Ben Ross for doing the same thing?

Thaiday after that first hit on him didn't know what day it was anyways.
Actually maybe he should stop the sledging and moaning and actually try to do some good for his team...wasn't one of the best forwards out there by a long shot. Shut ya trap thaiday an try and let your actions on the field do the talking.
Otherwise just another example of some Beetch doin the 'Coulda Woulda Shoulda'

I think the young bloke might be getting a touch confused between fear and respect.

I think the 'older' blokes seem to be more confused- thinking that respect should = fear and that JWH should respect and fear them.

Civoniceva deserves respect. Thaiday is not in Civoniceva's league- JWH has no cause to respect him or fear him. By the looks of it though, Thaiday may have cause to fear JWH

Thaiday may have cause to fear JWH
Someone remind what this kid did... other than belt a 5/8 and take down a back rower? His game would barely rate a mention if he didn't feel the need to sledge someone every time he got near the ball.

JWH said it himself. I'd like to see where Thaiday said what you are suggesting because I must of skipped over that part.

If someone is man enough to take the field of battle against you, you show respect. That's it. You don't fear though, but there is a difference.

I'm not sure that you are suitably qualified to decide on who deserves respect and who doesn't.

For the record Thaiday is a premiership winning, quadruple state of origin winning player that has accumulated over 100 games for club, state and country.

I don't think Sam Thaiday has anything to prove to anyone even though in this instance I think he should of just kept quiet.

Boom rugby league rookie Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has warned that New Zealand's players will continue to adopt an "all-in" approach if any of their teammates are endangered during the Four Nations.
And the new Sydney Roosters signing remains nonplussed about the fuss caused by his sledging of rival Petero Civoniceva as an "old man" during the 20-20 draw against Australia in London last Saturday.
Not only was the 20-year-old unapologetic about that, but he said the melee which followed Paul Gallen hitting out at Issac Luke would be repeated if any Kiwi was fouled this Saturday against France or in later matches.
"One-in, all-in," said Waerea-Hargreaves.
"Once one bloke goes in, we go in with him.
"As I said, we've always got each other's back.

"It was just good to show everyone back home, all the critics who think we've got no chance in this tournament, that we're capable of playing at this level."
Waerea-Hargreaves has risk-taking in the blood.
His father, Wayne Hargreaves, was working for United Nations peacekeepers in Cambodia in 1997 when kidnapped by guerillas. He was held for 16 days before being released in exchange for weapons and supplies.
Waerea-Hargreaves has only recently got to know his dad, who has also served in trouble spots Kosovo and Baghdad.
He was encouraged by his father to visit Rwanda with a group of National Rugby League players last year on a Christian-driven charity mission.
"Twelve months ago I was in Rwanda and if I didn't make this squad, I was going again," he said.
"I would have been there, but to be here is just unreal and it was always going to be another life experience."
Waerea-Hargreaves said a chat with Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney set the scene for his fiery outing against Australia, highlighted by a thunderous hit on Sam Thaiday.
"Steve had a word to me and said `take your opportunities as they come'," he said.
"I guess one of them just said to me `go hard' and I guess it came off. I was pretty happy with it, awesome.
"It was an unreal feeling to be out there with my brothers and a thing I will never forget.
"We were pretty happy with the result, absolutely. The ball's in our court."
The Kiwis held a weights session on their first full day in Toulouse when new addition Eddy Pettybourne joined them in camp.
The 103kg South Sydney forward's services were secured before the tournament and the Kiwis registered him as their 24th player before taking 23 to Europe.

Sounds like a decision on who deserves respect to me

I might just add, as well, that I am hoping that any of the 3 nations bar Australia win the tournament. Just to quell any thought that my comments are anti-NZ or what have you.

Yeah, I suppose I am then.

I tell you what though, I won't be trawling internet forums and claiming that any player at international level doesn't deserve respect. I hope you can see the difference.

You also seem to be assuming that I accept and we are agreeing on your definition of respect or, more importantly in this instance, that the Kangaroos hold to your definition of respect.

JWH was responding to specific, pissweak attempts at patronising taunts from the Aussies of 'respect your elders' etc- inferring that he should be meeker and milder because of his relative inexperience. It doesn't sound like they were respecting Hargreaves as 'someone man enough to take the field of battle against them'.

Do they? Where did I say that? I said:

I disagree with all of that. You are reading into this is a strange way, but then again we read into things the way we want to. This will keep going around in circles, so I won't bother after this post, but I'll leave it with a quote from Jared:

'I don't respect them.'

And if you can find a quote from anyone in the Australian team that says they don't respect Jared I'll apologize unreservedly.

can i just say, from my vantage point, he played all over Thiaday and Civo. Cant ask for much more from a kid than that. Thiaday should shut his mouth and focus on getting his own form right.

Yep, right on. Can I give a big shout out to JWH - love your work mate, keep giving it to 'em!

The Kangaroos were calling him 'pup' and 'rookie' all night. He was sledging and being sledged. The Kangaroos have a problem with him not 'respecting' them. You seem to have a problem with him not 'respecting' them. Me? I love it. Give it to them JWH
