Pretty fair line-up. I snuck into the Hoey Moey at Coffs Harbour to see several of these bands. Then I ended up working there for a while and dodging the flying barstools, pool cues and (plastic) glasses.

On the Phil Collins thread, my lasting memory is from 1990 or so in Canberra. Weddings Parties Anything were playing in town and were being interviewed on one of the local FM stations. Coming back from an ad break the radio station played on of their house promos "You're a great radio radio station FM 104, but I wish you'd play more Phil Collins"....to which the bass player for WPA replied....."You can get f#$ed then". Nearly crashed my car.

I used to go to the Hoey Moey in the late seventies. I also remember getting so paralytic at the Fitzroy Hotel in 1975 (I was on holidays from Armidale Teachers` College) that it took me two days to get over it. I blame my cousin for that.

Opeth's version of that sound sucks. You can see Katatonia's progression from all the way back at Brave Murder Day.

Neither Dead End Kings nor Night is the New Day struck me at first but now...wow, amazing stuff.

The Angels? Hahahahahahahaha, hilarious.

Opeth are OK, I guess its just personal taste

Not just Moody Blues but Floyd influence as well, (I wont post all their albums here, lol).

Its roots go back to the 60s when John Miless did this tribute. This vid was only recorded a few years ago but was written back in the 60s but you can see the natural progression from back then, its just alot heavier now.
