That pretty much sums it up Strides and that's a good question.
The hard core following of the Wanderers appears to be a mix and match of all those clubs. The ultras, as they are known, or more officially, The Red and Black Bloc, appear to have taken the Wanderers to heart and are building a large, noisy following. They are clearly made up from a mix of diverse cultures which reflects the west's multi-cultural population. This was clearly evident on Saturday at the Derby where a huge number of them turned out.
To answer ME's question about where have they all come from........the West has been crying out for a local A-League team for years, so there was always going to be a pretty large supporter base there from the start. They're already averaging over 10 000 this season, which was their goal, and they still have another home derby coming up, which will also more than likely sell out Parra Stadium again.
They have over 5000 members already, even though the club was only formed or announced on April 4, 2012. When they signed their coach, Tony Popovic, they only had 6 signed players. They have put a good squad together and are currently 4th, just behind A-League powerhouse Melbourne Victory.
It's in the Eels best interest that this club is successful. It will booster our chances of a stadium upgrade if the ground is being used year round, and to large crowds. We just need the Eels to start winning again.
