The teaching industry is no different to any other.

I've worked in a few different industries and they're all very different, including the types of people who work in those industries.

So surely teaching is a unique industry, and potentially more (or less) full of smug, self-entitled merkins than most (or all) other industries.

It's a bit glib to say that teaching is no different to any other industry.

I can't be f**ked going into too much detail, but every element of society has it's good and bad. I deal with all sorts - retailers, manufacturers, public servants, professionals, law, general public etc..., in my daily life. They all have their good and their shit merkins. Teaching is no unique than any other industry.

I tend to agree. Although I do know some who are good who have only ever been teachers.

There is so much wrong with education in this country and I agree with HJ in some respects too. Outside of Science and History, Higher education in Australia is geared towards gay, female, atheists or the extreme left if you want to talk about it that way.

There aren't too many gay lezzo extremist academics in corporate finance, or most branches of economics me reckons;-)

What get me is all these f**kwits who spend their time berating teachers in general then wondering why the profession doesn't attract the quality of candidates that it did many years ago. And while I agree with the principle behind performance pay, I hope they've got some objective and relevant means of measuring performance or they'll get what they measure and everything else will suffer.
