Individual politicians (even the PM) make f**k all difference to our lives. They are more at our whim than we are at theirs. And while I agree politicians (as well as sportsmen) are open to criticism, that's not the same thing as character assassination, which tends to masquerade as 'political criticism' amongst you plebs.

Try telling that to the 24 000 public servants sacked by Campbell Newman up in Queensland.

If David Hicks is innocent, WTF was he doing in Afghanistan?

Suity, I watch 1 episode of TV a day. Two on the weekends if I'm staying in. So that's maybe 7 or 8 shows per week, with most only running for 13 weeks, which gives me around 30 shows to watch per year.

I don't watch that many, which gives me room for sport and news.

Plus, I don't have kids.

backpacking obviously. the guy decides to go somewhere on the recommendation of lonely planet's "top 10 places people don't normally go to", and he gets called a terrorist, blood-lusting mercenary then locked up.

worst holiday ever.

I'm reading "Agent Storm" by a Danish ex Islamic militant extremest and Al Qaeda member, Morten Storm, that spent time in Syria and elsewhere training. He turned CIA informant. It's an interesting read so far. He seems to be about as intelligent as David Hicks.

I'm not sure that being in Afghanistan and firing bazookas was an offence at the time he did those things.

That may very well be his loop hole.

I suggest to you however, that just because having sex with minor in Cambodia in the 60's may not have been technically a chargeable offence (for example), it does not mean that you are not a slimy rock spider paedophile.

Accordingly, these bandwagoners who are banging the drum about Hicks being "innocent" need to give themselves a triple.

The point is not that whether he was "innocent" it's that he wasn't charged or dealt with at law. He was detained and tottered and held without charge in a secret institution.

Advocates of hicks are mainly advocates of civil rights and rule of law.

What is it that you are so convinced that he was not innocent of? What crime, of what country's law, and on what evidence and process are you relying on for your conviction?

A photograph and some rhetoric?
