The accepted narrative is that RL is full of thugs, pedos and dog rapists, and the other codes are full of wholesome young men of high moral standing.

The press aren't going to divert from the narrative - it isn't in their interest to do so. People buy in to stories that confirm their prejudices - so that is what journos write.

The more I read stuff like this, the more I think ... does she want us to go back to the old days where all this sort of behaviour got swept under the rug? Does she really wanna know what players got up to during those "golden" days when her old man coached a local team? I mean, REALLY?

Just, the more I think about it, the more I think people like this woman actually prefer this kind of stuff being hidden away as opposed to dealt with transparently.

Brendon Fevola and Ben Cousins are the pen-ultimate model of what the standard AFL player is.
I hope Monaghan joins the AFL, at least he'd fit in.

What about the disgusting incidents that have occured in junior AFL over the last couple of years?

This woman is painting a picture of AFL being a wholesome game for kids and families to be involved in. "Scarves"

Most AFL incidents are reported in the media and then forgotten about quickly, while RL incidents are brought up time and time again.

The result of this is there for all to see in this woman's article.

She's a Brisbane radio host.

Imagine if she was a Melbourne radio host and wrote that against the AFL (which you could quite easily do given that code's off-field record).

She'd be run out of town.

That's the difference.

This is the problem with Australia today, people are so easily offended about things that really do not affect them.

It appears the author is so really sick and tired of the NRL being open, transparent and public about these issues of player stupidity. The dog may need counselling, I think the author is the perfect person to sort that out.

She beags out NRL for not letting fans on the field after matches unlike AFL, this very thing happened after every Brookvale Oval match this season. I'm sure it happened at other grounds.

The authors other comment about the NRL having/being "condescending, patronising, sexist and abusive approach to women", well I think the dog has more issues than all women in society regarding this particular matter that has so terribly swayed her from the game. And when it's written - the AFL has successfully managed to make the game family friendly - the author fails to say how? I want to be enlightened with the great AFL's deeds. Is it their open door drug policy? Have they purchased a Tiffany's jewellery shop, and started selling ice cream for the kids and 1 hour all asian massage for the dads? Seriously the article reads like someone pretending to be a Rugby League fan & then wow factor shock us with... I'm no longer interested because this is the last straw. Oh I'm so emotional. Let's all hope the author doesn't brush David Jones as quickly.

The author is a belter, it's either they take themselves to seriously or they were never a true league fan and used this vehicle to try to push the wheels of the other code. My mother is 56 years old, this Monaghan act hasn't broken her heart or shattered her dreams. And she's someone who switches teams every 3 years. This season I had the pleasure of being in a coporate box, 60% of the guests were female and 90% of the people running the show were female including my sister and cousin. All proceed went to charities. This article is biased, slanted, factually incorrect and premeditated. More good use of our ABC taxpayer dollars.

You poor old misogynists..you are so stupid that you miss the point of the article.
Mothers dictate what their sons will play, women are supposed to make up 50% of league supporters, hence make up to 50% of those who decide to purchase merchandise etc which brings in income for league.
You dinosaurs think that league players can denigrate women and animals with their drunken antics and group mentality and sponsors will still tip millions into the code.
I feel sorry for your wives or daughters..they are probably scarred for life with champions like you boys under the same roof!

The roof of Skilled Park?

Rugby League is a working class came played by working class people.

Many of these players come from poor back grounds with poor role models.

What do you expect when you give these guys (who really are the definition of bogans) hundreds of thousands of dollars and girls throw themselves at them.

Time everyone one watched rugby union. The ruffians game, played by gentleman.

You don't see the Wallabies in the paper sexually abusing people and animals.

The only bad press the Wallabies have had in 10 years was the Quade Cooper breaking and entering incident.

There is someone at the Roar who has posted an article saying that the behaviour of NRL players is worse than NFL players.

She has linked this article as proof of a back lash against the popularity and future of the NRL...

Why do so many people enjoy deathriding RL? Seriously what do they gain out of it??

I'm of the belief there are two groups.

I think many people are frustrated and disappointed in the conduct of players, and how much more common it is. I also think society has decided that glassing your girlfriend, defecating in hotels and getting your balls licked by a dog are a no no. Rightfully so. The other thing is that I think many of those people are fans, and they know what this code could be, and won't sit idly by to let things get worse or to let things pass without some form of punishment. The only way for things to change is for people to put pressure on those involved. I'm in this group.

Then there is the second group who have agendas, and they can go and get f**ked.

I've heard of selective hearing, but these 2 statements in bold put Archie in the hall of fame for selective ignorance.

This (Monaghan's) incident isn't about rugby union. It's about rugby league. We should be focusing on ourselves and getting our game right rather than letting those union and AFL pricks have their way. If there are articles out there that are critical of our game, then we can either whinge, complain and do nothing about it or we can take action. We can sit here and go boo hoo hoo, woe is me, poor rugby league, all hard done by, they all hate us, cry cry cry, wa wa wa, someone wipe the dibble of our f**king face. Or we can put processes in place that stop things like this happening. We can beat them just by being the code with the best image. And image counts for a lot in society. Best image for potential sponsors, best image for potential fans, best image for schools, the media and anyone else you can think of.

These Union and AFL "pricks" honestly believe that their players do not behave just as badly as NRL players.

Im sure that several of these "pricks" are logged in right now as guests reading the latest on this scandal...

Some of us are just trying to educate them...
