The Back Page is an utter disgrace

First time I've watched this show in a while. I must admit it wasn't too bad, tonight.

Roy Masters was on as a guest, and they showed some clips of the old Magpies v Sea Eagles of the late 1970s/early 80s; it was great footy and as hard as nails.

Tonights show was advertised as the NRL GF preview. The first 16 minutes, you guessed it, was an AFL gush fest over some player going to the Swans next year. The NRL "preview" ran a measly 8 minutes!

The question is why? Fox has a dedicated AFL channel FFS. On our biggest week surely this crap could have been relegated to the sewer.

Some things will never change it seems.

C'mon dude, even I know of Buddy Franklin - similarly when Tony Lockett joined the Swans - I actually watched some of their final appearances, during that era. Still don't like the game, but I don't hate it.

These dickheads still drone on and on and on about the AFL, despite the season being finished- they're deadset scraping the bottom of the barrel in order to keep talking about AFL. RL has a WC coming up and we got a small segment showing SBW and the Kiwis training, then it got shoved aside so they could talk about Essendon's coach.

Dont watch it anymore. It is a joke of a show with panel members having the combined sporting IQ of 43

Yes, but the fact is a single player transfer in a sport that has finished for the season got double the coverage of the impending Grand Final of Rugby League

Go back and week and see how much they dedicated to the AFL Grand Final vs say a potential or actual signing of a player in Rugby League.

My guess it would have been 28 minutes of gushing about the awesomeness of AFL vs a passing mention of something happening in Rugby League and most of that passing mention would have been how the league player was previously disgraced in some way.

I have watched the show on a few occasions and on each one they've talked up AFL to the nth degree and 90% of the comments on league have been put downs.

The show is a f**king disgrace.

It's not the lack of intelligence of the panel I find so abhorrent, it's the fact the contents insult my intelligence. That comes from the producers of the show who dictate content.

I assume from the content it's produced in Melbourne and very much aimed at a Melbourne audience. If that's the case and from my viewing experience it seems that way, it should only be aired in Melbourne.

Fox needs to understand that when you broadcast Nationally, your content should appeal to a broad section of the communuity - not pander to one segment of it.

It seems the panelists are only there to pump up the ego of the producers by constantly telling the audience that the sport the producers like is the best one on the planet and the only one worth discussing.

I have no links, but I have read numerous articles that have stated that the majority of Foxtel customers who subscribe for sport are Rugby League fans. Foxtel can spend their cash to grow their business how they like. It shits me that RL fans are getting shafted in order for them to grow their AFL fan numbers, but there is nothing I can do about it.

After this broadcast deal is up, I hope the NRL spends part of their war chest in setting up their own Broadcast Division, modeled on NFL Films. Games could be sold direct to the fan via the internet or sold to FTA and Pay TV. If either party wants a part of RL, then the NRL can compel them to give the fans a fair go.

He makes the show painful, hearing him speak is like nails on a chalkboard.

Typical of him and like all the other jurnos still doubting the Rugby League WC.

Steve Mascord appears to be only jurno to have something positive to say about the World Cup.

Sydney morning herald has been largely positive about it as has FSN, it seems thatsome select news journos are the only knockers now

Actually the other day I heard Paul Kent on Fox Sports news saying how much he's enjoyed the World Cup so far and can only get better.

I cannot stand Hooper.

Never sticks up for RL just joins in the bagathon of it.

If Hooper reacts then it shows he has an inferiority complex, by staying calm and "going along with it" it shows that he's comfortable in the knowledge that Rugby League is the best sport in the world, and will always be No.1 in NSW, Qld and Sydney. You should see some of the jibes that soccer has to put up with over here. They go along with it. Look, RL is a great sport, and we're growing, so relax.
