The Back Page is an utter disgrace

I watched 1/2 an episode for the first two weeks; haven't even flicked back since. It was abhorrent.

The panelists lacked sports knowledge - which is surely a prerequisite - they seemed to have a crap comedian on who provided nothing but bad jokes. And yes, it came across as an AFL love-in.

No chemistry and no in-depth interesting discussion.

In a nutshell it has gone from my favourite show on tv to the absolute worst thing on foxsports.

The show has been butchered since Tony Squires took over, his ABC uni grad humour is not funny. their decision to replace Gibbo with him was about as smart as replacing Ryan Phelan with Shirvo. DUMB!!!

I never watch the show, but I know that comedian Matt Okine is appearing on it this week. He's a big rugby league fan and tweets about NRL all the time. Hopefully he brings that to the table

Pretty sure this exact same show was on the ABC 20 years ago.

Should just rename it The Fat Page and be done with it.

That bloody disgraceful woman on the Backpage was talking a second ago about how much she admired the Essendon Football Club despite the allegations against them in relation to peptides. She must be Caroline Wilsons ugly younger sister.

And the discussion about the drug issue was shelved very quickly.

The AFL in general ( officials, clubs, players & media ) are world champion spin doctors. The classic example last week was people feeling sorry for Jobe Watson because fans were booing him. They have been fortunate that Essendon has one of the golden boys in James Hird as coach & the son of a club legend ( now popular media person ) as captain. If it was a battling club like Melbourne or the Western Bulldogs their task would have been much tougher.

Amazing how Jobe Watson gets a free ride for his admission, yet in the States Barry Bonds uses the exact same excuse (he didn't know he was using something illegal) and has his records and accomplishments openly questioned and rubbished by media and fans (rightfully so).

I agree with both of you. The way the Backpage handled that situation last night was pathetic. They had a chance to make some big statements and ask some hard questions but resorted to fawning over the player and the Club. Pathetic.

Yea saw that as well.... Was hoping they harped on how bad it was for longer. An elbow to the face is much worse than a fist!!
