The Bunker

Archer's a joke. The Bunker isn't the issue - he is.

But the Ese'ese decision was still correct by current rules.
Even using the rules the way they are written make it a try.
He wasn't tackled
The ball wasn't grounded
Momentum and the fact that he was still in the process of being tackled also make s legal try.
Read them
The penalty was for double movement
They used the excuse his elbow touched the ground.
That is not even mentioned as a rule on the NRL official double movement section.
It openly mentions the ball being grounded
Which it clearly did not.

Anyway Everyman and his dog Know they f**ked it up and Archer is only trying to justify his own job

Decisions like that are why I desperately want the Sharks to win this year, so I can walk away from the game.

It's just over officiated & misunderstood by the officials.

I don't really blame the refs, they are following instructions but the hierarchy needs to have a long, hard look at what they are instigating.

Give me a go in the bunker. If the ref thinks it's a try, I'll bloody well give it, unless it's obviously not. I'll have 5 looks maximum, 2 of which is in normal speed (3 of 5 for a double movement).

I'll also give the ref the option to say "I wasn't quite in a position to see it, please decide for us".

Stop denying bloody tries that have been tries for 100 years!

Also, I'd make the touchies more involved. Call some forward passes from dummy half you dopes, when the passer is stationary.

I'd put them through a physics class so they don't call the long pass to a winger forward that denies a try because it floated 2 metres forward, but was obviously thrown back.

Marvellous how the arm carrying the ball contacting the ground on the field of play is enough to end a movement but in the in-goal it is not enough to constitute a try. . . as it once was when RL was as it's meant to be

The single worst bunker decision this season. And that's coming from a bona fide Broncos hater.

'Technically' the bunker could call every try a no try because 90% of player still don't play the ball correctly.

I agree with replays with no slo mo. I actually miss the days pre video ref. Watching old games it's amazing how many times a ref got it right.

25 camera angles and the bunker still gets them wrong.

Easy solution to fix this one: get rid of the double movement rule.

It's not that simple, just apply the rules as they are intended & have been applied forever. As I wrote in the Sharks forum when the same suggestion was raised:

"Not a bad idea but it has to stay.

If a bloke makes a break & is pulled down with a great cover-defending tackle, stopping 20cm from the tryline.

With no other defenders in sight to secure his arms, he lifts his arm up & puts the ball on the line. Try!

No thanks. This is what the double movement rule is there for, not the nitpicking use of it atm."

This is what happens when the NRL decides to over complicate things, simply if any part of the arm carrying the Ball touches the ground and the natural momentum has stopped, the play has ended.

the problem is caused by simplifying things

The problem's actually caused by everyone demanding perfection from the officials, but not from their own team's players.

Wanting rules to be ignored in certain situations is what complicates things. Applying them to the letter keeps them simple.

The rule is (and has always been) that once your ball carrying arm touches the ground, you can no longer improve your position. If you slide over the line, or a defender rolls you into it, that's not your fault. If you extend your arm, drive with your legs, or do anything to create further momentum, you get pinged. Nice and simple.

Trying to ask refs to decide if an arm has touched the ground hard enough to count, or to allow additional promotion of the ball after the arm has touched down on special occasions, will complicate things and lead to massive inconsistency

Reminds me of the reaction to NRL's Match Review. Everyone was speaking out about priors for players like Gubb etc a couple of weeks ago because it led to him copping a big suspension... but when it comes to Josh Reynolds they want every prior ever to count. It's hilarious.

Or people saying they want the bunker removed and to just have the refs make decisions again....

.... But then also blow up every time a forward pass is missed and demand magic GPS balls and such

Mate, it's five days later and your persistence won't change the result.

Because I disagree with you. But your complaints won't change the result or the decision.
