Put them in the Queensland Cup.
Put them in the Queensland Cup.
The ARLC should to grow the game, but they won't.and who pays the $3mill a year needed to run a qlnd cup side?
Put them in the Queensland Cup.
It would probably be better spent on grassroots.would you rather see $72mill a year going to a qlnd and nsw second tier comps or to genuine grassroots and jnr footy? End of day the pot is only so big, and just got a lot smaller.
Put them in the Queensland Cup.
A revamped NSW/RM Cup would be the ideal location initially for Adelaide
Could even play in a NSW location near Mildura if covid is still a issue
Gotta start sometime, at least WA has gotten those several junior leagues going strongseriously ? SA gets smashed by every year in state championships, how much do you think it is going to cost bring across 30 reasonable players from the east coast to make a team? And what benefits is there unless it’s part of a time announced plan For an nrl club?
Best thing for SA would be for arlc to quadruple the pittance of money they get, get some decent infrastructure in place and start building jnr clubs, which will take the next 10-15 years.

There is no case for Adelaide. A quarter of the population of Melbourne and without the NSW & NZ ex-pats that make up much of the Storm’s support.
Relatively speaking, RL is stronger in Adelaide than Melbourne (9 clubs v 17), but even a combined team would be uncompetitive against just about any team in NSW or Qld.
Participation in Melbourne has only gone from 10 clubs to 17 since 1998, and there is still not a club within 20km of AAMI, so there is little hope for Adelaide. You can’t grow grass roots with money. Top down does not work either. You need dozens and dozens of passionate people on the ground, founding clubs and many, many volunteers.
And a team of NSW players representing Adelaide in a second tier comp would do nothing for the game as nobody would go and it would get little media coverage there.
It can’t be done.
Go where the strength is.
Geez, Sorry, just came across this thread now. I will go through all the other threads and sort them out when I have time.So where were all these wise opinions when this thread started?
You could have saved everyone here time if you hadn’t been asleep at the wheel and posted this wise insight much earlier, rather than let this drag on for over 800 posts before you piped up.
Rams still exist, just need to inject a few journeymen, and boost them into the NSW cup or CRLGeez, Sorry, just came across this thread now. I will go through all the other threads and sort them out when I have time.
BTW, I am not hard against a NRL team in Adelaide if the NRL wants to go national. South Australians are parochial and they would draw reasonable crowds. Plus the time zone is better than Perth. But to suggest starting with a second or third tier team, or that participation will ever grow to a meaningful level, is just fanciful.
Correct. You need to plant lots of seeds to yield a crop. Bottom up growth is the only way to expand the game. Work with the state government to get the game played in schools and eventually the grassroots will grow. Give them an Origin game every 3 years and Tests in exchange for funding at the grassroots level. There is no case for Adelaide. If NRL is to be national and surely that is part of their name, they must have a team out of Adelaide.
Or don't call yourself the National Rugby League
Call yourself the Eastern Seaboard Rugby League.

Perth has grown the game from the bottom up, so they're ready for an NRL team. Melbourne needs to start growing the game from the bottom up after all the freebies they've been given. I'd go as far as never playing Origin or Tests in Melbourne again until the Victorian Government agrees to spend money on the game at the grassroots level to increase participation.
