Its been stated and announced Grima is going to the Dragons.
The Elkin "rumor" will probably come to light in the next week or so.
As for any riffs, or falling outs, its all bullshit.
The unfortunate thing is, we only signed Flanno to a 1 year extension in October.
I think we should of offered him 3 years, but thats my personal opinion.
Sheppard is highly regarded around the club, and there are a few well known assistants putting their hand up to work for Flanno, so I personally think we will be ok.

Cheers mate

On another note, if we are only offering our loyal people 1 year gigs, why are others lining up to jump in.

No, I asked the question on Saturday night to a few people, Joey wanted a 2 year deal, it could not be offered.

Indeed he is. Like most first grade coaches who want their own assistants.
I dare say Noddy wont be a Dogs assistant the minute Ricky signs with them.

Ricky is not even in the running. Jimmy though, is right up there.

As for the notion that he wasn't signed BY THE CLUB, because flanno only has a 1 year deal, well if you cant see past that illogical nonsense, then i cant help you.
All coaches are signed by football CEOS, after consultation & approval with the board.
Coaches can request staff, which still go through the same process.

Joey Grima is a loss to the club, not Flannos career. It should not have been allowed to happen

A few of these coaches see the opportunity to leave their club for a better opportunity.
They may be second or third in line at their club.
They may have worked with Flanno in the passed.
They may also realize Flanno has a 1 year deal...............

Maybe Flanno was worried about his own position? it seems the career coaches are always nervous about their assistants knifing them?

shit flanno might have to enlist some of us on here to run the water and do the strapping etc the way its going

why are people always going as oppoosed to coming in

Its a crappy job. Great being around the players and on the sidelines, but you are doing it for love not money. Long hours and some weeks you don't even see the game.

Dragons sign Sharks assistant coach
BY BRAD FORREST
08 Jul, 2011 02:32 PM

ST GEORGE Illawarra Dragons have further boosted their coaching staff for next season, in the wake of Wayne Bennett’s move to Newcastle, by signing Cronulla Sharks assistant coach, Joe Grima.
Grima will join former Canterbury Bulldogs head coach Steve Folkes at the Dragons, under new first grade coach Steve Price.

The Leader understands Grima accepted the job, primarily in charge of video analysis, after learning of a new coaching restructure for the Sharks in 2012, planned under head coach Shane Flanagan.

Grima had apparently been looking for a new deal of two years or more, and couldn’t secure it with the Sharks.

The softly spoken Grima joined the Sharks four seasons ago after long service with the Parramatta club’s juniors. He helped develop some of the Sharks outstanding young players as Under 20’s coach, before joining Flanagan’s first grade group late last year.

The Sharks, trying to move into top eight contention after three straight wins, have yet to announce their coaching staff under Flanagan for 2012 on.

Despite losing Queensland Origin star Darius Boyd to Newcastle, the Dragons are still hoping to extend the contract of injured centre star Matt Cooper to enable them to keep the rest of their star back line past 2011, with Chase Stanley returning to join his promising younger brother Kyle next year.

They are also understood to be chasing Wests Tigers outside back, Tim Moltzen.

Price and his team recently signed heavyweight forwards Will Matthews (Titans) and Jeremy Latimore (Warriors) to refresh their forward stocks, with Jack Bosden, John Green and Daniel Penese moving on, and Adam Cuthbertson and Alex McKinnon likely to join Bennett in Newcastle.

Do I agree? I dunno, I think Shepard has done a better job than grima did but flanagan is in control, that's for sure.

Grima is a big loos no doubt.

But I think signing an assistant longer then the head coach is dangerous. We could never afford a payout if Flanno was to crash and burn for whatever reason and a new coach wanted to come in with their own staff.

I fear Grima taking the pick of our juniors however. He has a massive eye for talent.

Frenzy.

Looks to me like Flanno is on borrowed time. Looks like things are being set up to have a whole new coaching team in 2013. Doesn't make sense not to keep this current moderately successful team together if Flanno is going to be staying beyond 2012.

Who's on first?
