After a tough start to the year for the club, (elections, vouchergate, poor on field form, Brett Finch's departure etc.....) I can't help but feel, as I'm sure a lot of us do, a level of optimism about our future that I haven't felt for a very long time.
Thinking back, when Brian Smith signed with us, and with the Bulldogs 4 settling into the club nicely, was probably the last time I felt a bright future ahead.
Since the LC election, and despite some short term press coverage that cast us in a shadow, the club has gone from strength to strength, both on and off the field.
The new era is only in its infancy, but I see the election of both new boards, with a host of fresh faces and ideas, being pivotal in a a massive turnaround for the club, the likes of which we really haven't seen since Big Jack walked through the front door.
3 major signings in less than 4 weeks, the addition of Paul Osbourne - itself a major coup with regards to the values with which we take this club forward, including the positivity that is being fed to the media as well as the improved relationship we appear to have with them, the building confidence of the players on the field, all the way down to the small but imo important restoration of the Hall of Fame, all these factors are putting together pieces of a puzzle that have been missing for so long now. We are feeling like a club again.
Parramatta can rightly now once again be a club that players will WANT to play for. It can be a club that supporters will want to follow. We are now a club seen as going places.
I have a feel good factor about the club that is rising fast. The future is exciting.
The board(s) are at this stage taking baby steps towards improving the club as a whole. Time will tell whether they can realise many of their promises from the election, but to be honest, I didn't think our culture could be turned around so quickly, in my eyes anyway.
There may be some bumps along the way, but I feel that we are in a much better position to ride them out than we have been for a very long time.
We all now what Big Kev says.........well, Big Suity is similarly excited.
I can't wait. The seeds have been planted
