Still only 3 down. and with Gilly sitting in the wings, who knows, it is a big ask, then again if they are close after tea and still only 3 down they may have a dash at it, if they are going after it, I'd have Gilly in next drop, if we lose him then that leaves Katich and the other batsman to battle for the draw.

There not evem going for it.

They should have at leadt had a dig. There is no way they can win the trophy unless they do.

I disagree, wickets in hand are are only hope, watch for an acceleration, to have a chance we can only lose 2 wickets before we are exposed. Gilly to come.
Come on Aussie. Come on.

I hear a fat lady singing, well done India - they really showed what a great batting side they are series. 1-1 but as holders they keep it.
Again well done  , athough I maintain a decent captain and they win, Ganguly is not a captains arse.

Yeah - would have been good to see him get 100. Never mind. Even the greatest of them all ended his career with a duck!

I agree. He's fine as a player, but he's not much of a captain. I think they should give it to Kumble. He's been in the team for a while, and a fierce competitor.

Even before that. They took to long to get 650 IMO. So anytime during the last session on day 2 was ideal.

I find it remarkable that Martyn makes a lot of 30s and 40s but doesn't go on. The funny thing today was that he was in good company with Langer, Hayden and Ponting all scoring in the 30s and 40s with him.

I joked when Martyn got to 40 that he would probably get out now that he had reached that mark - sure enough next ball he swept straight to the man at leg-slip and was out for a well-made 40. His problem isn't form, it's just that he never goes on and establishes a big innings.

Another thing: No surprises about Dravid as Man of the Series, but Tendulkar ahead of Kumble for MOTM was interesting. a double century and a 50 without being dismissed is a great effort, but I thought Kumble's bowling was quite good despite the fact they got out swinging in most cases.

Well batted by Steve Waugh too - 80 runs in those conditions was great, a fitting display from a great of the game. Importantly he went out performing to the end, trying for that fairytale ending.

I like the gestures of support from people too - some kind motions and words (it seems) from Kumble, Tendulkar, Dravid etc and his Australian teammates. Also worth a mention was Billy Bowden's decision to go for the hug - Waugh was surprised by the sudden thrust of Bowden, arms out horizontal as if signalling a wide but in fact trying to get a quick cuddle from the great Australian before he left to go celebrate.

Bowden is a funny man, I'll give him that - cuddles all round from him after the match - so long as there is no leg-rubbing (ala his leg-bye signals) then I'll put it down as Bowden being his usual near-eccentric self. He is good for the game.

Bowden again made a great decision

Yeh he is a good ump isn't he?

Yeah, just ask Anil Kumble.
All bowlers will tell you the umps wrong...unless they rule in their favour that is. LOL.

So when Martyn was plum you agreed with Bowdens decision? :?
Saw it on TV last night El, I must admit it was a bit puzzling, looked out to me, but then again something may have come into play that we didn't see or hear. I still like the guy, he is a good umpire, and he adds to the game.

If the target was lower, the Aussies could have got the runs.

I don't think he did much wrong.

Hey, I was at the ground and everyone cheered when Martyn got out, it was the best thing that could happen to Australia in that run chase, everyone knew Martyn was playing for himself and thefore defending, once he was out, we got the runs.

Yes but with that they could have batted longer in the second innings.

Australia would have batted to just see where they were at various stages of the match. Kumble was bowling tightly to Ponting and Martyn and kept them at bay. Martyn would have been conscious of scoring some runs but I'm not sure you can blame him for slowing things down. The last thing Australia needed was to start swinging.

Martyn hasn't batted well enough overall, but I would hope that he isn't once again given an unfair send off following a Sydney match, especially given that Australia were always going to struggle to make such a high 4th innings score.

Interesting fact: Steve Waugh's 80 yesterday was his highest 4th innings score in Test cricket - never too late to break some record hey.

And Waugh also has the highest ever Test century-average (better than even Bradman) - it is something like 255 which means that when he gets past 100 he generally either goes on or he doesn't get out. His highest score is 200 but his ability to keep his wicket clearly boosts this average. In any case it is a phenominal career.

Yeah I was a little bit suprised that Dravid got Man of the Series, cause on radio they only mentioned Ponting and Kumble were up for contention, but in the end he deserved it. I wouldve thought they go with joint man of the series Ponting and Dravid.
