I find it remarkable that Martyn makes a lot of 30s and 40s but doesn't go on. The funny thing today was that he was in good company with Langer, Hayden and Ponting all scoring in the 30s and 40s with him.
I joked when Martyn got to 40 that he would probably get out now that he had reached that mark - sure enough next ball he swept straight to the man at leg-slip and was out for a well-made 40. His problem isn't form, it's just that he never goes on and establishes a big innings.
Another thing: No surprises about Dravid as Man of the Series, but Tendulkar ahead of Kumble for MOTM was interesting. a double century and a 50 without being dismissed is a great effort, but I thought Kumble's bowling was quite good despite the fact they got out swinging in most cases.
Well batted by Steve Waugh too - 80 runs in those conditions was great, a fitting display from a great of the game. Importantly he went out performing to the end, trying for that fairytale ending.
I like the gestures of support from people too - some kind motions and words (it seems) from Kumble, Tendulkar, Dravid etc and his Australian teammates. Also worth a mention was Billy Bowden's decision to go for the hug - Waugh was surprised by the sudden thrust of Bowden, arms out horizontal as if signalling a wide but in fact trying to get a quick cuddle from the great Australian before he left to go celebrate.
Bowden is a funny man, I'll give him that - cuddles all round from him after the match - so long as there is no leg-rubbing (ala his leg-bye signals) then I'll put it down as Bowden being his usual near-eccentric self. He is good for the game.
