The Fish.

It's a sad but harsh fact, and kind of a good problem- but not for the runner up player- that we have two exceptional fullbacks. Who would you pick over the other? I can't understand the gripes here by fans, the fish himself has said he doesn't like playing wing. So his options are too keep playing brilliant waiting for either poor form or injury, or ask to look elsewhere. Again sad, I'd hate him to leave...but if I was picking a team it would be Locke that I'd pick. Fish is like lightning for sure, but I'd be worried about his fragile nature.
But surely, SURELY people cannot blame the coach for this situation?!

I will edit this as I didn't read things properly...and just say I would rather get things right first before farting around with more experiments!

My comment was really just in reaction to some slightly outlandish suggestions. Your original reply pretty much applied haha.

Yeah, it's Friday afternoon and things are spiraling down rapidly! Enjoy!

:lol:Yeah I still stand by that original statement but get the feeling I'll be able to use it again REAL soon!;-) I'm just amazed at the reaction to the year so far, honestly just stunned. I don't think it's been that bad- Of course we have some rough spots that need sorting, but I'm enjoying it, and definately enjoying the style far more than for ages.

how long is Locke contracted for?

surely you can't keep a hold of both of these blokes long term, and i think it would be ridiculous to do so given the nature of the salary cap. you're paying to play a ferrari in NSW Cup. Fish wouldn't be on superstar money by any stretch of the imagination, but there would have certainly been interest from other clubs.

people keep saying Fish is in the Warriors long term plans... but i can't see how that is true if they intend to keep Locke. what long term plans? like most around here, i just want to see the kid play. he's a freak talent, and wasting away in NSW cup at the age of 21 with his talents seems ludicrous to me.

Yup thats why I'm saying he should move to the wing, who cares if he says he doesn't like it. All it take is a few games in the Vulcans to get a general idea if it could work or not. And like I said Matulino and Lillyman didn't like being moved to prop.

I hope he leaves, don't care where he goes just hope he leaves the warriors because he is too good to be playing NSW cup. You only get one shot and at any moment he could be hit with a career ending injury, i'd hate for that to happen and him not to get a solid crack at fg just because he wanted to stay loyal to the warriors. Him and Locke shouldn't be contending for a spot in the warriors 17 they should be at different clubs contending for a test jersey. Look at G.I. he should have been playing fullback for years considering his form on the weekend, just don't want to see his talent wasted and there are a lot of NRL clubs in need of quality fullbacks with Bowen & Mini getting older that's 2 clubs the fish could walk in to.

Umm, just why do we think we can't hold on to both blokes?

I reckon we can. Just because we see them as being natural Fullbacks doesn't mean:

a) that one of them can't be Centre/Wing
b) that because we can't see Locke having the instinct for 5/8, that we are right

I really do think we're being premature in wishing them well on their way.

Because you're a victim of your own good development, you have to lose some guys, that's just part of it. You've got Slaimankhel coming through as well, plus specialist centres and wingers up to standard to play in first grade and more coming through. The reality is for these guys to have the best shot of first grade they can they need to move elsewhere.

This is fine where they could be commanding more elsewhere when we can't afford to keep 'em all. So far this isn't the problem. The other possible problem is having too much of talent in the one position and can't place them all in to make use of them. The three that you've mentioned all possess fine talents that we may well be able to transfere to different positions, although it's not proven yet, doesn't mean it can't be, we should at least look at the possibilities before casting them adrift. This is the very question we're all raising about the prospects, particuarly of Locke in the No. 6

It can definitely be done, the fish & sly could probably make a deadly centre/wing combo, or Locke could turn out to be a gun no. 6 but fullback is a core position. Fullbacks and halves probably command the most coin and with the salary cap it will be hard to hold on to all 3 as I think clubs would be offering some good pay packets, not ruling out keeping them all though. It's the same reason Darius Boyd left the broncos because he was behind K-Hunt and now Gerard Beale is said to be leaving the broncs because he's behind Hoffman. Why play on the wing when you can be apart of a first grade spine. It's been happening to the Broncos for years and now that we are producing so many talented juniors it's inevitable that we are going to start losing a lot of talented players, as long as we retain the best of the bunch or develop replacements for those who do leave for more money, realistically you can't ask for much more.

The only swop thought that comes to mind is Locke to wing, Manu to center, fish to back. This works for me as Locke has been on the wing (and can help fish at the back if needed) and there's been talk of manu in anyway.

Locke was good on the wing for his first season, then his form dropped dramatically. Getting a chance at fullback pretty much saved his career at the Warriors.

Locke is your best fullback. If Fish is to stay for years, play him centre.

He should be good enough.

Fish has two more so far today. How many will he bag in the second half?

Looks like he's developed his passing game, too.

Still not so sure on his defense.
