I think the Dragons will be fine but there may be some tough times ahead. It is such a compressed sporting market and it will take some smart minds to navigate the correct path.

It's big business now days. Our on-field performances will be driven by our off-field performance, most notably the Board of Directors. The days of every Board having a tinker, a tailor and a candle stick maker are long gone. We need astute leadership. In my experience a fish always rots from the head down.

We have so much history, a huge hinterland, great juniors and passionate supporters. We are the Big Red V. But when I look at the financials underpinning the Club, guess then second guess where our money is going, and look at some poor crowd attendances, it is no lay down misere.

Not long ago the Panthers were massive news, driven by a behemoth of a Club. Look at them now. Michael Searle was the benchmark CEO. Really? The Sharks were a useless side, on the verge of surrender. Umm, I'm not seeing it.

The only thing constant in life is change. I think we need to change a few things to be assured of the future that we, as supporters, deserve. Amen.

Hahah now that's a loaded question.

The short answer is f**ked.

We absolutely do no have the roster to compete for top 8 in 2013.

I have absolutely no idea what the club is thinking and why they cannot see that.
Forward pack is weak. Recruits are average. Beale is solid and frizzel has potential. But it will be a miracle if we made the finals. f**kinfg joke.

Mate some fair points but it's really not that complicated. We have let all our good players go. And we have not signed any replacements. Too much money and faith being put in average players.

Would all be solved with better recruitment and cap management.

I choose the front office option, but I also believe the playing roster may be a problem in my opinion also. How much hunger do some of the guys who won the Premiership in 2010 still have. And if they've lost it, can it be regained.

1. I'm hoping some of the older players step down and we get youth in, but it'll have to be a fine balance. Price should see to this this year (to a certain degree) and 2013. He is (a) a rookie coach, and (b) was behind the eight-ball missing out on Moltzen. He deserves next year, but he has to deliver (both for himself and the fans).

2. From people who know more than me about the club, it sounds like Doust is there for a long time. OK, I'll grit my teeth and see it out. But, I want his recruitment 'philosophy' (for a better word) to change. Get some hunger in ya Doust. Go after merkins who are coming off contract.

I look at Manly and yeah I know everyone hates them. But they're the only team (because Storm, blatantly, cheated) who have been 'up there' for the past five years. That's what I would like to see from the Dragons. Consistency each season.

The impression you have been giving us is that you knew everything that the club was thinking. Why have you now come out and said you know nothing. What a letdown!!!!!!

I don't want to join the masses dribbling negativity on here but I am a little bit concerned. We need some quality recruits. Top sides don't win the coimp & then rest on their laurels for 10 years

i would be only slightly concerned if this was new territory for the team, having a rookie coach and relying too much on juniors rather then strategic recruitment... however given the fact that the club has been down this path before with Nathan Brown and failed miserably ... to venture down the same path again is NRL suicide...
BIG CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE AND FAST!!
its proven that even one season off the pace of the frontrunners can take years to repair...
the loss of potential sponsors and playing talent not wanting to play for a team on the slide with no apparant future plan of success can take years to recover from, thus swift immediate action like the bulldogs took this year is what we need our club to step up and do..

We have been 'up there' as well tbh. We've made the finals as consistently as any club. But I digress, this is about the future...

It's impossible to predict, unless you're an idiot savant like BBC. But for me, well, maybe the premiership of 2010 has induced in me an enduring Buddhist-like state of nirvana, putting me on a higher (or way lower?) plane of consciousness. Because, I'm ok with the future. The upcoming NRL broadcast deal appears certain to provide a massive financial windfall for all clubs, and our key points of difference as a club will become more pronounced. Player-wise we retained Cam King, who was my highest priority this year (and may have shattered my nirvana had he left), and I'm keen to see him come along with our other young crew

I've ticked the give it time option.

Price has not had the best of starts but if he were to guide us to a top 4 position next year? It's his first year and has been repeatedly said on this forum many times that some of the modern day good coaches did not start off very strongly.

Judge at the end of his tenure not the the middle!

Not worrying yet.

I'm mainly concerned about the marketing of our brand - or lack of it.
We should be aiming to be the No 1. brand in the game - not resting on our laurels because we have such a large and loyal fan base. Many of us middle-aged supporters were hooked long ago, but what is being done to attract the supporters of the next 30 or 40 years?
I'm not confident of the growth of our brand under the current management. Doust is no innovator. He toes the party line, and speaks like a politician. Maybe that's where he should go - Canberra - would fit right in there.
Playing wise though, I think we will be ok. The south coast nursery is still producing talent, maybe just going through a bit of a lull at the moment. But we're still the envy of most of the other clubs in that respect.
The premiership hangover and post-Bennett period won't last forever. Once some new blood starts being introduced into the side, I'm confident that the hunger and desire will return.

Very true Godz Illa, I actually remember you mentioning this before and I agree. It would have to be us, Manly and Brisbane in my opinion who have been 'up there' since the creation of the NRL in 1998.

I'm pretty chilled too. we have good juniors coming through. Can't wait to see King, Cummins, Style and De Belin. Naturally they'll cop a hiding from the usual suspects on here as they learn and make mistakes, but I'll leave that up to them. As you say the future is hard to predict, but I have a feeling we'll be OK if the hunger is there.

aaagggghhhh. calm state of mind here. maybe peter doust has not gone the way many seem to think is the correct way, but.........he got bennet, therfore a premiership as well,so in my mind he is going alright. i do not know the in's and out's of running a club and dealing with petulant footballers, managers etc, as well as the massive financial planning involved so i take my hat off to anyone who has done it well. maybe a lot of people had visions of title after title once we had done it, and are now in a state of depression..........and to change the subject quickly, if i here another story about robbie farrah's mum [ who was obviously a lovely lady , don;t get me wrong ] fair dinkum , i will vommit.
