I do really wonder is a combined England/Aus comp could work….

For the UK teams, the prestige of regularly hosting NRL teams would be enormous for local interest.

For Aus, having UK teams i the same comp make those games relevant to Aussie fans so i think the games on tv would get a great audience (sitting in the 300k mark for paytv). So it would just be more content to sell.

the obvious problems are logistics of travel and timezones. These might honestly be too much and split the comp in half (it would be sh*t if a third of your clubs away games are played after midnight…

You'd probably do three conferences of 10 (one of them a European conference) H&A then a finals series where top three from each Southern Hemisphere conference join the top 2 from the European conference for a combined finals series

Interets g nrl had talked about twenty nrl teams playing 19 games and then rumours they want a ten team SL team presumably playing each other twice to give Avery similar season length?

Origin- 3 game series, Men and women.
Samoa vs Tonga 3 game series.
Fiji vs PNG 3 game series.
New Zealand vs England 3 game series
France, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, 3 week comp.

Once the NRL has SL , we can pause both comps for the rep period.

Friday 7.30: Samoa v Tonga
Saturday 530: Origin (women) 7.30 men's
Sunday 4pm : Fiji vs PNG

Northern hemisphere:

Friday:730 Wales vs Scotland
Saturday: 7.30 NZ vs England
Sunday 4pm: France vs Ireland

During this period players with heritage should be released and paid to represent or run training programs for developing Countries, $10k for 3 weeks with those regardless of whether they are playing or not: USA , Jamaica, Canada ( a round robin comp maybe)Italy, Greece , Lebanon ect.

What's interesting is between Union and League, Union has always been ahead in terms of organisation but it's really starting to swing, especially if the NRL buys Super League.
Rugby league can be run domestically and globally under one streamlined organisation within the next decade.
Union will still be juggling comps , internationals , overpaying to win talent from itself and infighting.

To be fair, a vital step was taken by the English establishment when they moved their season to the northern summer during the Superleague war, to align with ours.

Rugby union still struggles to reconcile two largely incompatable calendars - and if we can refine our global season, they'll be under even more pressure to fit all those pieces together in some coherent way.
