hahaha so i guess no to Stairway to heaven as well ;)
Kinda! I can do the opening bit, but haven't gone any further. Stairway To Heaven is more than just a few power chords, so that's how I justify it to myself! Haha!

by the way... I have seen street perfomers in spain that would shid all over most of the guitarists mentioned in these threads.

Also I have seen dudes playing Rumba in africa .
That is some tricky stuff ...they don't play chords or seem to follow any form of structure.
Some how it all comes together .

Takes some listening to get used to it I must say.
My first 12 hour local cross contry bus trip was damn tough.

The only let up from the non stop Rumba was when the bus driver/DJ must have felt sorry for the 3 Mazungoo's ( white fella's ) .
They played one side of Kenny Rogers greatest hits.
dunno what was worse.

lol well Stairway is a great song to learn, has abit ofeverything, the lead my be abit tricky for many new to the instrument but otherwise a great song to learn, and more complex then some think.

Black dog is also a great song to play, the first song i ever learnt on guitar.

Pity it wasn't Kenny Loggins, Danger Zone on through Africa would've been unreal!

Hey Carch, I was thinking I might start learning guitar again. I used to dabble a bit but my ex owned our two guitars so I no longer have one.

Was thinking of buying an acoustic - nothing too special but not a complete piece of turd.

What should I be looking for?

ok dev.

I suggest a solid top ( i.e the top where the sound hole is, is one pice of wood - without the split down the middle )
I haven't looked at acoustics for ages.

However Vantage do quite reasonable guitars.
I got one 20 years ago .
I have taken it all around the world and Australia and it is still going strong.
It has a little crack from being at the bottom of a pile of surfboards and gear once.

They are great sounding cheap guitars.

Don't waste your time with nylon strings.
The action should be nice and close to the fret board without buzzing.
It will make it easier to play and therefore making learning more fun.

My one is like I am playing my Fender strat.

Actually Fender do good acoustics as well.

geeze mate.

Mine was about 200 in 87.

And that was a better than shyte but nothing special price.
I reckin 400 would get you an ok one.

$74?

I can only asssume it would make expensive firewood. :)

Seriously though, I would need to play it first.

..but hey 74$ ...what have you got to lose really?

I know it wasn't directed at me... but don't go for anything at that range mate... it'll put you off actually wanting to play, coz itll go out of tune after a few strums and the sound will be ****. You can get some value for money in the 200-250 range.

Well my guitar arrived! Didn't cost me much but I reckon it's money well spent.

Seems pretty decent for a cheap one.
