Historically speaking and looking purely at the statistics I think the 1935 Roosters were basically the Bradman of Rugby League.

Over just 16 games they scored 599 pts and conceded 157 for a differential of + 442. And that's with 3 pt tries.

They averaged 37pts per game and the next best was 21.

It's hard to judge teams you didn't see but again purely from a statistical perspective I'd imagine that the 1935 team is a pretty strong candidate for best ever.

But they still couldnt beat everyone

High For & Against usually means there were some poor teams who also played

Eg Canterbury & University 1935

I also dont beleive you should only onclude News Ltd influenced period where News Ltd owned clubs were given a leg up.

Eg Broncos 1998 who fed off the demise of the Crushers and Chargers

Only undefeated clubs should be considered

The three I would consider in the undefeated category would be

Easts 1936
Souths 1925
St George 1959

Others lost matches in the City Cup or Ampol Cups and everyone else lost a Premiership match

So the only way to seperate those three would be to see who had less draws

Not exactly fair when one team plays well over 20 games in season. There is a reason why it hasnt happened in a while. Plus I am not going to judge a team I didn't watch play.

Broncos 98(on playing talent) & Storm 17(the whole team in the peak of form)are a couple of standouts but I can’t go past the 94 Raiders. Sticky won the comp he cruelly missed out on in 93(I imagine a Broncos vs. Raiders GF for that year would have been epic but for Sticky’s broken leg).
Back to 94 & the semi they played(& lost) vs. the Dogs was one of the greatest games I’ve seen.

Undefeated is irrelevant IMO

It will never happen in the modern era. Professional sports is just completely different to the amateurs that were playing pre WW2.

Also the Easts 1937 team didn't have Dave Brown. He left Easts at the end of the 1936 season to play for Warrington in England on a big money contract from 1937-39.

One team nobody talks about is Manly 1995 - 22 W - 2 L and +439, Canberra also had 22W 2L that year and +379. Ofcourse the Dogs won that year, crazy season....

Which wasn't surprising. Dogs were the minor premiers the previous 2 years (and won nothing), had a poor start to the season because of super league. Not surprising that half way through the year they reverted to the previous 2 years form.

Langer v Ikin should be enough to give it to 98. But on top of that there is also Renouf in the centres compared to 2000 which had De Vere and Carroll.
