Or better still the Hay Cutters. The way they cut and run.

As a matter of fact I am a Life Member, past President, and sponsor of the Hay Cutters Rugby Union Club....
The Cutters went into recess last season but are back again in 2010 because blokes are willing to have a go, organise competition and get back on track. One of the truly great Union Clubs..World famous Hay Cutters.

They could follow the dream and play in group 17. Well they could of if Hay hadn't of killed it. Hay killed Group 17, you bastards!

Hay didn't send Group 17 to the wall. The CRL did.....
Rankins Springs should contact Dave Skinner the CRL RAM for Bidgee Region and try and get into the Bidgee Shield competition...which has teams like Narrandera back in the game.
Dave is the MAN..You will get more sense out of him than dealing with Head Office as he (Dave) knows the set up out here..(not meant to be a shot at CRL HO; Dave is the organisation's manager, and if enquiry was sent to HO it would just be directed back to him anyway)

ok, so you abandoned group 17 than blame the CRL...

you also promote 1 game a year where you invite a couple of ex footballers to represent you club for a one off game, you register them for the 1 game, collect the gate takings and the poor suckers that have to play them have been training together for the whole season and then come accross to Hay only to find 2 to 3 ex origin players in the opposition team..:? not to mention the poor players who have to forgo their spots to let these blokes play..

you cannot convince me thats fair or reasonable for that competition (group 20?) ..no way!

so this game where you get ex top grade players to play is a real competition game? against normal opponents?

pete can confirm it but I'm sure it's a real game and not an exhibition one..

Sure is a competition game. We get the players registered..as any other Club in the CRL can do.
The match is an outstanding feature of Rugby League here in Hay, and if anyone was to ask me to pinpoint the resurgence of interest in the code in Hay, I would suggest Pie in the Sky 1 while Hay was still in Group 17.
Since then it has grown and grown, and this years event will be the best yet.
Yenda Blueheelers specifically asked to be selected as this year's opponent.
The match and the Sportsman's Night that follows is a major fundraiser for the Club. Sure beats selling lots of raffle tickets.
The local players enjoy the experience of playing with the Superstars who willing give up their time to be part of the promotion. The opponents also enjoy the opportunity to pit their skills against former NRL stars..AND the crowd enjoys it even more.
We promote the code the way we see fit for our followers.
We don't have to convince you, Stagger, of anything.
The game here has never been stronger. Player wise, junior wise, official wise, interest wise. Our webpage has had over 70,000 hits in the past 12 months, and it can be all put down to the resurgence that followed the Pie in the Sky.
It should be a feature of bush football throughout the State. There are a group of players willing to put their hands up to play. It just needs someone in authority to co-ordinate it by thinking outside the square.

well if you believe it's a wonderful gesture on Hay's part to field 2 to 3 ex NRL/Origin players against a bunch of bush footy players than maybe you should share the spoils and arrange for a couple of players to play for the opposition as well..

you can promote the game however way you see fit, but don't try and convince me and others that this is a good thing for opposition teams for your group and including the poor sods who train all year only to be replaced by these ex legends for a one off game..

 Good one!!!!

Their juniors (and seniors) could follow the dream and play in Group 20...and that's what they did. Good on em. Dave Woods was an ex Rankins Springs boy...
The Hay juniors, back in those days, had to go to Aussie Rules to get a game of sport after they turned 14..
It has ALL changed now. This is a dominant LEAGUE town...

Well that proves that they are soft. They are made of straw. ;-)

I always preferred Alice.:sarcasm:

I am not trying to convince you of anything. I don't need to.
Other Clubs can promote the code ANY WAY they want also...we do it by the Pie in the Sky games.
They have been FANTASTIC for Hay and hugely successful...
We have even bigger plans in store for 2011....Spread the word....

so what happens to the poor players who have to forgo their spots so that blokes like Croker, Collins and Tookey can get their thrills one last time??..raffle and BBQ duties I guess hey?

i'll let you spread the word Pete, you can start by telling the opposition that they might as well not turn up for their 2 points..

Hey, that's not a bad idea.... They get rostered on for those duties anyway. One for all, all for one.
BTW we got no especially 'poor players' out here..They are all poor, they play for fun. No contracts, no win bonus, no signing on fees, they pay most of their own rego, and have to become members so they don't have to pay at the gate.
That's the way it has ALWAYS been. These Magpies play for their Community, and play with pride in knowing that they always give 100%
The opposition love it, and are ALWAYS competitive.
Yenda, this years opponent is the current holder of the Clayton Cup after being adjudged the best performed team in the CRL.
The players and coaching staff all LEARN by the tips passed on to them by the Pie in the Sky players..

but hey, it's all for the love of the game isn't it??...pay your rego then don't play!

registered by the CRL....those big bad bully monsters!!

Yep, they are the authority we go through. And they are quite willing to take our registration fees as they,no doubt, be willing to do so for other Clubs who use the same initiative.
Billy Millard, Simon Woolford, Matt Toshack, Bryan Fletcher, Craig Smith are going to play in the Northern Part of the State, as is David Peachey.
Great idea, and good to see the players putting back into the game. I applaud them....
They will all have to be registered with the CRL, too.
The CRL makes the rules of competition, Clubs, if they want to play Group football, have to follow the rules.
There is a young lass at the CRL office who has been very helpful to this Club around Pie in the Sky time, helping out with clearances etc..and we are appreciative of that
