Or better still the Hay Cutters. The way they cut and run.
Or better still the Hay Cutters. The way they cut and run.
Hay didn't send Group 17 to the wall. The CRL did.....
Rankins Springs should contact Dave Skinner the CRL RAM for Bidgee Region and try and get into the Bidgee Shield competition...which has teams like Narrandera back in the game.
Dave is the MAN..You will get more sense out of him than dealing with Head Office as he (Dave) knows the set up out here..(not meant to be a shot at CRL HO; Dave is the organisation's manager, and if enquiry was sent to HO it would just be directed back to him anyway)
so this game where you get ex top grade players to play is a real competition game? against normal opponents?
pete can confirm it but I'm sure it's a real game and not an exhibition one..
Sure is a competition game. We get the players registered..as any other Club in the CRL can do.
The match is an outstanding feature of Rugby League here in Hay, and if anyone was to ask me to pinpoint the resurgence of interest in the code in Hay, I would suggest Pie in the Sky 1 while Hay was still in Group 17.
Since then it has grown and grown, and this years event will be the best yet.
Yenda Blueheelers specifically asked to be selected as this year's opponent.
The match and the Sportsman's Night that follows is a major fundraiser for the Club. Sure beats selling lots of raffle tickets.
The local players enjoy the experience of playing with the Superstars who willing give up their time to be part of the promotion. The opponents also enjoy the opportunity to pit their skills against former NRL stars..AND the crowd enjoys it even more.
We promote the code the way we see fit for our followers.
We don't have to convince you, Stagger, of anything.
The game here has never been stronger. Player wise, junior wise, official wise, interest wise. Our webpage has had over 70,000 hits in the past 12 months, and it can be all put down to the resurgence that followed the Pie in the Sky.
It should be a feature of bush football throughout the State. There are a group of players willing to put their hands up to play. It just needs someone in authority to co-ordinate it by thinking outside the square.
 Good one!!!!
Their juniors (and seniors) could follow the dream and play in Group 20...and that's what they did. Good on em. Dave Woods was an ex Rankins Springs boy...
The Hay juniors, back in those days, had to go to Aussie Rules to get a game of sport after they turned 14..
It has ALL changed now. This is a dominant LEAGUE town...
well if you believe it's a wonderful gesture on Hay's part to field 2 to 3 ex NRL/Origin players against a bunch of bush footy players than maybe you should share the spoils and arrange for a couple of players to play for the opposition as well..
you can promote the game however way you see fit, but don't try and convince me and others that this is a good thing for opposition teams for your group and including the poor sods who train all year only to be replaced by these ex legends for a one off game..
I am not trying to convince you of anything. I don't need to.
Other Clubs can promote the code ANY WAY they want also...we do it by the Pie in the Sky games.
They have been FANTASTIC for Hay and hugely successful...
We have even bigger plans in store for 2011....Spread the word....
ring-ins? .... it sounds a bit whacked to me
No not ring ins...registered players
so what happens to the poor players who have to forgo their spots so that blokes like Croker, Collins and Tookey can get their thrills one last time??..raffle and BBQ duties I guess hey?
i'll let you spread the word Pete, you can start by telling the opposition that they might as well not turn up for their 2 points..
Hey, that's not a bad idea.... They get rostered on for those duties anyway. One for all, all for one.
BTW we got no especially 'poor players' out here..They are all poor, they play for fun. No contracts, no win bonus, no signing on fees, they pay most of their own rego, and have to become members so they don't have to pay at the gate.
That's the way it has ALWAYS been. These Magpies play for their Community, and play with pride in knowing that they always give 100%
The opposition love it, and are ALWAYS competitive.
Yenda, this years opponent is the current holder of the Clayton Cup after being adjudged the best performed team in the CRL.
The players and coaching staff all LEARN by the tips passed on to them by the Pie in the Sky players..
registered by the CRL....those big bad bully monsters!!
they learn alright...train all year then sit out the game that has more publicity than the grand final infront of more people than you have all year...way to send a message Pete!!
but hey, it's all for the love of the game isn't it??...pay your rego then don't play!
