It's in the results, Bull. He's won comps everywhere he's been except for here.
Proud of the Sharks in the 90's, Schnoz. Sure. Talking to Panthers guys at work. Came up a few times how, over time, the Sharks were consistent semi-finalists yet the Panthers rarely got a look in. Then came the knockout blow: `We've one one and you haven't'. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 You're out, Popper.
As Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers is alleged to have said: `Winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing'. We've yet to find out what the hell he's talking about.
Yep. This is the last year of Andersons contract. I reckon he should be given free rein, without hindrance to do what he is contracted to do. If he fails then kiss him goodbye. I don't want to kiss him, but some of you blokes might want to.
And Blacktip. I don't know how the hell you're gonna prove it. I was hoping you'd pull something outta the hat.

I keep hearing Sharks fans saying "Ando has won 2 comps at 2 different clubs. He knows how to win. Our best chance is with him, blah, blah, blah."
Lets have a look at some prviuous coaches at the Sharks.
Norm Provan won 10 grand finals, 1 as a coach. Looks like he knew how to win but didnt do it with the Sharks. Admittedly it was very early days for you boys.
Ken Kearney won 7 grand finals with six of them as coach. Another that new how to win but brought no joy to the sharks.
John Raper won 8 premierships as a player but no win as coach at the Sharks.
Jack Gibson won 5 premierships at 2 different clubs and managed to break Parras duck but couldnt do the same for the Sharks.
Beetson won 2 premierships as a player but became just another in the long list of coaches with Grand final experience to fail.

So my point is just because someone has been there and done it before is no guarantee that they will do it again. Ando may have won 2 but they may be the only 2 he ever gets.

Why can these coaches have success at other clubs but not with Cronulla? It's true that past success does not always guarantee future success but it certainly improves the odds. Why not at the Sharks though - Is it the Sharks player roster? Is it the board? Is it in-fighting?

I think that the times you have gotten close luck has had as much to play as the coach or the players or the ref or any of the other myriad of thing that can happen.
I am a Manly fan and i not foolish enough to deny that things fell our side of the fence in our 2 encounters. They could just have easily gone the other way.
While premierships are built on skill, toughness, experience, and coaching there are also other factors. There are injuries, freaky bounces, dud calls. And while i am a firm beleiver that you put yourself in a position to be lucky, Cronulla have also gotten themselves into a position to be unlucky. You cant be unlucky one game short of a Grand final if you dont get yourself into that game.
i honestly think that Cronulla fans are that desperate to pop there cherry that they are looking for all sorts of reasons. It can be as simple as the planets not being ib the right configuration. The slightest downfall in anything form preparation through to packing your boots for the game can be enough to put everything out of wack. And lets not forget, in those big nd of season games, youre not losing to mugs.

In the past 30 years, the only coaches to win 1st grade grand finals with more than one club are:
Gibson - Roosters & Eels
Gould - Bulldogs & Panthers
Anderson - Bulldogs & Storm

No coach has won it at 3 clubs though....in the last 30 years (don't know about before that).

There's been a lot of negative stuff said about SR here. I know little about him but I thought I heard that he did quite well in UK. Didn't he do a John Lang with Castleford?

Could anyone give a bit of a resume - what's so bad about him?

He will quit during the Season, you watch it!!!.


He did it with hes Son Ben at the Storm the year after and when they did not want Ben, he got the major case of the sooks and went back across the Murray!!!.


Next year he will GO for sure!!!.

Stuart Raper turned Castleford from being a rubbish nothing team to perpetually challenging for the top 5 in the Superleague.

He then went to Wigan and won the Challenge Cup for them.

This season, a lot of people have talked about how badly Wigan went, but let's not forget that they had a pretty awful injury toll. I think he's done a pretty reasonable job overall, and he can't do much worse than Anderson did this season anyway...

Well I want to join the club.
This guy even gets me agreeing with Bennett. That is not good.

IMO Raper will be a breath of fresh air down @ shark park.
The main reason I like him, he has something to prove, Anderson has been resting on his laurels, ego etc.

Coaching IMO is horses for courses, Chris is at the wrong track.

Another example of horses for courses in coaching - T. Sheens.
Did well at Penrith and Canberra, went to North QLD did bad, now at the Tigers and looking good again.

i agree anderson has to go. He creates controversey and dosn't listn to any one. Sack him now or well be headed down the Souths-"Tugger"-langmack road. He came to win a comp and hasnt delivered any thing. As for noddy, we need him as there isnt anyone to fill the shoes. I hope we do better in 2004. :cry:
