It's not a problem,my nephew tackles giants like that every weekend,me and my mates tackled giants like that when we were kids

Those dud kids should go play soccer
I bet if you were there the big kid wouldn't have been playing against a full team of 'dud' kids

Feel bad for that giant kid,he was basically walking to give them a chance and yet 13 kids couldn't work together to bring him down and now he will probably retire and never play again.

I was lucky growing up in South Auckland as literally EVERY team we came up against were stacked with big boys. Infact we were probably one of the smaller sides in the comp each year. But we were the fittest (most of the boys played rep touch) and the most skillful. We had a bloke who would play for the Junior Kiwis and the Warriors and he was very football savvy even at a young age. Coupled with a couple of blokes who would play at various levels in the system at different Aussie clubs and we were a team to beat.

That being said, we were coached smartly. Some of the other teams I could really feel for. I was a handy footy player but was more often than not plonked on the wing because I was smaller than the others which sucked until I learned the ins and outs of teh position - particularly on defence and kick returns/dummy half scooting.

There should be open grade and restricted weight grades with the youngins, common sense should prevail.

tbf that old style tackling technique is also much more likely to lead to concussions so maybe its a good thing?

I concede this is a good point and one I have "wrestled" with a bit.

But where I am at with it is that little guys are still forced to tackle big guys that way or they just get rag dolled when they go up top.

The giant kid had 20 players on top of his back who combined would weigh more than him,not the giants fault that 20 kids can't work together to bring him down.

Useless kids can't even win a 20 vs 1 scenario

How would Hayne handle it?

The simple solution is for RL to reward legs tackles, not penalise them.
It will take time, but the wrestle will slowly disappear , to a point.

Thats what I am thinking. Reward one on one tackles.

Let's see, train all players to tackle like Steve Mortimer. That means the resultant offloads would have to be negated by the two players that would've normally been in a 3 man tackle

That would work if every player was capable of stopping any other player on the field one-on-one . . . sound feasible
